What Do You Use Semi-Automatic Weapons For?

At today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing Rep. Jerry Nadler debated semi-automatic weapon ownership with Rep. Chip Roy:

Gun bills sent to Governor

The following gun bills have been sent to the Governor today:

  • A-613A/S-14A, Criminalizes the sale of ghost guns and requires gunsmiths to register and serialize firearms, rifles, shotguns, and unfinished frames or receivers they assemble.
  • A-2111/S-5952, Provides taxpayer gifts for gun violence research; requires the tax commission to include space on the personal income tax return to enable a taxpayer to make such contribution; establishes the gun violence research fund.
  • A-2666A/S13A, Enacts the “Scott J. Beigel unfinished receiver act”; relates to unfinished frames or receivers; establishes the crimes of criminal sale of an unfinished frame or receiver in the first and second degrees as class D and E felonies, respectively.
  • A-6522/S-7152, Amends the definition of a “disguised gun” to include a weapon or device capable of being concealed on a person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive which is designed and intended to appear to be a toy gun.
  • A-7302/S-2981, Creates a firearm violence research institute and a firearm violence research fund.

It is a foregone conclusion she will sign all of them.  The only question is how much of a circus will be made when they are.

House Judiciary to markup federal ERPO bill

The House Judiciary Committee will hold a markup on H.R. 2377 the “Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2021” on Wednesday, October 27th at 10:00am.

Call the House switchboard @ 202-224-3121 and demand your representatives oppose this bill.

Extremist running for Nassau legislature

An antigun extremist is running for Nassau County Legislature District 6:

[Laura] Burns, 52, of Rockville Centre, writes young adult novels. She lost the 2019 bid for the seat. She is also on the Working Families and Common Sense party lines. She helped establish one of the nation’s largest gun violence prevention groups, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, after the Sandy Hook school massacre …”

Her campaign website describes her as, “She’s a mother, writer, and advocate for gun violence prevention.”

The incumbent C. William Gaylor is running for re-election. Vote for him no matter what he’s done.

Bragg makes interesting admission on guns

The Gotham Gazette reports on the candidates running for Manhattan District Attorney.

Democratic nominee Alvin Bragg makes this interesting admission:

“… Bragg spoke about taking a nuanced approach to prosecuting gun crimes, citing certain instances of illegal possession where individuals should not be prosecuted. “My dad had a gun when I was young. It was unlawful, but it was to protect our home. I had him turn it in when he was 65. He was not a public safety risk. My position [on gun prosecution] are nuanced. They are born out of real experiences, both in the courtroom and personal that marry fairness and public safety,” Bragg said …”

While it falls well short of a full endorsement, this is the most 2A positive statement I can ever recall seeing from a NYC-area Democrat candidate running for any office.

All you need to know

This is all you need to know about the Nassau County District Attorney’s race.

Vote for Anne Donnelly regardless of her position on 2A.

Assembly hearing on gun control proposals today

At 10:30 am today Assembly Codes Committee Chair Jeffrey Dinowitz will take testimony to examine gun control proposals aimed at further reducing firearm-related accidents and violence, as well as curbing the proliferation of illegal guns in New York, Hearing Room C, Legislative Office Building, Albany.

The posted agenda calls for input on any new gun control schemes the legislature has not yet addressed as well as questioning why the ammunition database that was supposed to be created under the SAFE Act is not up and running.

Nothing good will come of this.

Vote for Steve to give the middle finger to Chuck

Chuck Schumer has given his endorsement for an open Queens City Council seat:

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announces his endorsement of Felicia Singh, Democratic Nominee for City Council in District 32. Singh’s race is widely considered to be one of the most consequential races in NYC, with District 32 being the last remaining Republican-held city council seat in Queens. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1 in the district, yet constituents have been represented by a Republican for the last 12 years. Councilmember Ulrich, who is term-limited, holds one of the three remaining Republican-held seats in City Council … Singh has a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate and Courage To Change distinction and has received endorsements from a coalition of community, grassroots and labor organizations …”

The Republican in the race is Steve Sirgiovanni. I do not see any position statement from him on 2A issues. Outgoing Councilman Ulrich was not a supporter of 2A. It doesn’t matter. Go out and vote for Steve to give the middle finger to Chuck.
