Sliwa is as worthless as Adams

Curtis Sliwa made his reputation as founder of the Guardian Angels. I don’t recall him ever talking about gun control. Had he remained quiet he would have offered something of an alternative to Eric Adams in the race for Mayor of New York.

He didn’t:

“… Sliwa said the way to act now is if the city expands the sentence for criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, otherwise known as a Class D Violent Felony, from 3.5 years to 7 years. Sliwa had previously blamed lawmakers in Albany for not having foresight in making certain legislative decisions …”

This is the same crap that Mayor Bloomberg pushed for, doubling the penalty for “illegal” possession of a firearm. It had no effect on public safety.  Gun charges are often the first to be tossed from real thugs caught behaving badly, while otherwise decent people who run afoul of the Sullivan Act get screwed because of them.  There is no justification for this.

Warren busted on gun control law she supported

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren gets busted on a SAFE Act violation, a law she openly supported:

Court case make effect part of SAFE Act

A court case in the 4th Circuit may have an effect down the line in New York.

One provision of the so-called SAFE Act was to raise the age to obtain a pistol license to 21. The 4th Circuit court just ruled that prohibiting 18-20 year olds from purchasing handguns is unconstitutional. New York is in the 2nd Circuit so the ruling doesn’t apply here, however, it is in conflict with an earlier ruling in the 5th Circuit leading to a possible SCOTUS challenge at some point.

Adams calls for “real federal legislation”

Eric Adams won the Democrat primary making him likely the next Mayor of NYC. While being interviewed by CNN they reported:

“… On the issue of gun control, Adams also said it the focus should not only be on assault rifles, but also on handguns. “The numbers of those who are killed by handguns are astronomical and if we don’t start having real federal legislation, matched with states and cities, we’re never going to get this crisis understand control,” he said …”

What he means by that is unclear to me.

Adams is up against Curtis Sliwa in the general election. I cannot recall Sliwa ever calling for 2A reforms.

Signs, signs, everywhere are signs

New bill introduction today A-8149, Provides for the posting of firearm signage in certain areas:

“… IN AREAS IN WHICH THE RATE OF GUN VIOLENCE IS ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE, THE DIVISION SHALL NOTIFY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY SERVING SUCH AREA TO POST SIGNAGE IN THE FORM PRESCRIBED BY THE DIVISION …”

I have read so much stupid legislative shit over the years, but this is right near the top.  What exactly is this supposed to accomplish?
