Pro-gunners should do this

Spectrum News reports:

“On Tuesday, a group of House Democrats, including Hudson Valley Rep. Pat Ryan, announced plans to attempt an end-run around GOP leadership to force a vote on banning military-style semi-automatic guns and enhancing background checks for gun purchases. They introduced a legislative tool called a discharge petition. If they get a majority of House lawmakers to sign on, they can bring the bills up for consideration. “We’re not going to stick by the old rules. We’re not going to wait for [Speaker] Kevin McCarthy, his MAGA extremist allies, who all day long lecture about public safety and crime,” Ryan said …”

The antis in Albany used to do this when Republicans still controlled the State Senate as well.

The chicken-shit Republicans never do this. It won’t work legislative, but it does help politically by keeping their agenda alive and putting the opposition on the defensive. It generates media attention and helps with fundraising. Republicans, especially in Albany, are too cowardly and stupid to do this on any issue. This is a major reason why they are now super-minority in the state legislature.

God Save the Queen, man

Joe Biden is the perfect spokesman for gun control:

“President Joe Biden’s closing statement following his keynote speech at the National Safer Communities Summit at the University of Hartford on Friday has come into question. During his last few seconds on the stage at the summit, Biden said “God Save the Queen, man” to a crowd made up mostly of gun reform activists, gun violence survivors and families of shooting victims …”

End of session wrap-up

The state legislature is in recess. The Assembly may come back for a special session in a few weeks, but no gun-related items are on the talked about agenda as of now.

Here is the list of relevant gun control bills which passed this session:

Everytown’s Albany agenda was primarily to get funding for various money-funnel schemes including the Grieving Families Act and payments to so-called gun violence survivors. Absent any push-back they pretty much got what they wanted.

Also, they talked with at least one Assemblyman on “smart guns.” I’m sure it has to do with this, “Smart guns finally arriving in U.S., seeking to shake up firearms market,” although there is no bill specifically on this subject.  It is reasonable to assume legislation will be introduced on it in the near future.

Westchester license fees bill passes

A-5092/S-4879, Relates to fees charged for a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver in the county of Westchester, passed the legislature. It now goes to the Governor for signing.

I expect the county will jack the cost of a pistol license up into the hundreds of dollars at least.

Rochester City Council considers mandatory storage law

WROC reports:

Rochester City Council members looking for ways to keep guns out of the hands of kids seemed open to a safe gun storage initiative presented by Moms Demand Action. Members of the group presented their ideas to the public safety committee Thursday afternoon. Calling gun safety a public health issue and not a political one, a volunteer who is also a doctor at the University of Rochester asked for support to educate adults about the dangers of leaving guns unlocked and loaded around kids …”

Warning signs bill may be voted on

With the last scheduled session day tomorrow, a bunch of garbage bills have advanced in one chamber or the other. Only one I think could still go the distance, S-6649, Relates to warnings to be posted and provided by firearms dealers, advanced today to 3rd Reading. It’s companion A-2882 has been on 3rd Reading since April and could still be voted on before the clock runs out.
