Farkas reiterates support for gun control

With the Democrat primary in CD-17 heating up, Evelyn Farkas reiterates her support for gun control in this article:

“Evelyn Farkas, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Obama, has been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla) and the group she chairs, Elect Democratic Women, to succeed Rep. Nita Lowey to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District. The group was founded by seven sitting members of Congress to confront the gender gap in congressional representation … “Having spent my career in traditionally male-dominated spaces in government and working to promote women into positions of leadership, I know firsthand the necessity of elevating the voices of women where they are underrepresented,” Farkas said. “I am so proud to have the endorsement of Rep. Frankel and Elect Democratic Women. Together, I know that we can make the 117th Congress the one that … finally passes the common-sense gun reforms Americans demand.” …”

Nobody is demanding anything. She’s just pandering to the fringe.

Maloney awarded Gun Sense Candidate Distinction

The Queens Gazette reports:

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn) has been awarded the 2020 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction. Rep. Maloney said, “Moms Demand has been an incredible force for action to end gun violence in America, and I am so proud to have been awarded their 2020 Gun Sense Candidate Distinction. The toll gun violence takes on our country can be measured in lives, it can be measured in its economic impact, its impact on our health care system, and the traumas we inflict on our children. It has to end, and I am proud to continue fighting beside them to create this change.” In awarding this distinction, Moms Demand thanked Maloney “for advocating for gun violence prevention and making a commitment to govern with gun safety in mind.””

Maloney is facing several primary challengers in next month’s election.  With primary turnout normally low, possibly even lower this time around because of COVID-19, I would surmise she’s calling in favors to help keep her seat.

Schleifer unveils “STOP” gun control pan

The free-for-all Democrat primary in CD-17 looks to be a choice of who is least offensive.

Adam Schleifer steps up to the plate with this:

“Adam P. Schleifer, a Democratic Candidate for U.S. Congress in New York’s 17th District, unveiled his sweeping gun control plan, “STOP” (Securing Threats and Ongoing Protection). Specifically, he will support and introduce legislation to mandate universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and “red flag” laws that prevent those in mental health crises from obtaining firearms … “Now is the time to stop senseless gun deaths,” said Schleifer. “America has had enough carnage due to weapons of war flooding our streets. The COVID-19 era has seen the largest surge in background checks in our nation’s history, while millions of illegal firearms fall through the cracks. As a federal prosecutor, I took illegal guns off the streets. As your congressman, I’ll keep illegal guns off the street. When I was in first grade, I had a loaded gun pointed at my head, and I was one of the lucky ones. Through robust, commonsense reform, I’ll work relentlessly to keep our children and citizens safe.” …”

Notice how he isn’t pointing to any specific problem with the spike in gun sales. He is just upset that it occurred.

What is his plan?

“… An outline of Schleifer’s STOP (Securing Threats and Ongoing Protection) Plan for gun reform below:

  • Universal background checks, because we should be at least as careful about who wields a firearm as we are about who drives a car.
  • A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. In civil society, no one needs a weapon of war.
  • Enact “red flag” laws, so that persons in mental health crises or distress are disallowed from possessing firearms. If a person cannot safely possess a firearm, it should not be legal for them to do so.
  • Regulate DIY parts and sales of “ghost guns” so that anyone with a drill and a free hour cannot assemble an illegal firearm.
  • Hold gun manufacturers accountable.

…”

A laundry list of gun control advocate’s latest bugaboos.

“… One of his top legislative priorities in Congress will be to enforce mandatory background checks on all gun sales. He pointed out that 99.9 percent of New Yorkers live within 10 miles of a gun dealer …”

Here again, he cites Everytown statistics, but does not say what the actual problem with this is other than the fact he doesn’t like it.

“… He pointed out there are nearly 62,000 unique gun dealers across the country, more than four times the number of McDonald’s in the United States …”

Guns are healthier than McDonald’s food.
