Public protection budget hearing tomorrow

The legislature will livestream a public hearing tomorrow, Feb. 10 @ 9:30am on public protection proposals in the state budget.

Students Demand Action will testify in support of S-1049, Establishes the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Act; provides findings for evidence-based and evidence-informed health programs from hospital-based and community-based programs.

The bill declares that “gun violence” is “a crisis” and hands out monies to political cronies.

On the posted agenda is S-914, Establishes environmental standards for ambient lead and lead contamination.

This looks suspicious and may impact gun clubs and shooting ranges.

Senate Codes to take up “ghost guns” bills

Senate Codes Committee will livestream Monday at 11:30am.

On the posted agenda are S-13, Enacts the “Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act” in relation to unfinished frames or receivers, and S-14, Enacts the “Jose Webster Untraceable Firearms Act.”

S-13 defines “unfinished receiver” as so to criminalize the sale and possession of metal and plastic sheets, billets, rods, wires, powders and granules.

S-14 defines “unfinished receiver” as per S-13 and would criminalize replacing the grips, attachment of an optical sight, and the replacement of a broken pin, screw or spring on any firearm.

Suffolk County bill IR 1001-2021, Conducting a Preliminary Environmental Site Assessment in support of an environmental hazard mitigation plan for lead waste after County-owned recreational shooting ranges close, passed the county legislature.
