No mention of 2A

The Republican “leadership” in the State Assembly called for a “restoration of law and order” in the wake of the increase in shootings across the state.

2A right to self-defense was not part of the discussion. This is not an oversight on their part.

Court rules gun store not “essential”

Spectrum News reports:

“A federal court on Wednesday upheld New York’s decision to close gun stores during the coronavirus shutdown, with the court finding the Second Amendment rights of New Yorkers were not violated as a result. The case stemmed from a legal challenge made by a Long Island-based firearms dealer, Dark Storm Industries … The gun store claimed the move violated the Second Amendment rights of New Yorkers during the pandemic. But U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence Kahn wrote in his ruling New Yorkers could still purchase firearms from other retailers and “the evidence in the record indicates that, even during the height of the lockdown, New Yorkers continued to enjoy access to numerous retailers where they could purchase firearms.” …”

Here is a link to the filings in the case of Dark Storm Industries, LLC et al v. Cuomo et al.

I expect the similar suit brought by the NRA will crash and burn as well.

Everytown lobbying for “police reform”

Gun control advocates have long had a relationship with urban police chiefs and organizations. They were useful in pushing the antigun narrative.  Now that gun control organizations are openly calling police racists and murders hopefully this will change.

These are the bills Everytown lobbyists worked on in Albany in the last quarter. Only one is related to gun control. The others fall under the “police reform” that “progressive” advocates want:

Cowards

Do any members of the LCA have the brains or the balls to ask Gov. Cuomo and the legislators why all the new gun control laws they passed have had no impact on the increase in violent shootings in cities across the state?

Apparently not.

S-4868A amended

S-4868A, Requires owners of firearms to obtain liability insurance, has been amended and resubmitted to Finance.

Clown Council keeps handing out pork

The New York Post has an article on the NYC Council continuing to hand out pork to their cronies despite the current fiscal crisis.

What they don’t mention is this pork includes $55,000 to New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, same as FY2020.

It’s all about priorities.

Cornell slammed for donating to BLM gun control

It’s hardly a secret that most college campuses are hotbeds of leftist indoctrination. One student at Cornell is unafraid to call it out:

“Last week, the Student Activities Funding Commission, without precedent or any forewarning to students, unilaterally decided to donate $10,000 to the ongoing Cornell Students for Black Lives fundraiser. This would be an unprecedented sum for any registered student organization, especially one less than a month old … Despite not even being a registered student organization, they have received $2,500 more than the highest tier student organization receives in an entire semester … Even more questionable, the SAFC, entirely funded by students’ activity fees, used your money to do it. The SAFC ought to answer for this unprecedented use of student funds. Cornell Students for Black Lives stated two weeks ago that the money raised will be evenly divided among five political activist organizations: Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, Communities United for Police Reform, NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Southside Community Center and Tompkins County Showing Up for Racial Justice … this does not give the SAFC license to support organizations with overtly political objectives. These organizations speak for a variety of radical objectives well beyond the scope of racial justice, and the SAFC has made the dubious decision to endorse their actions with students’ funds. For example, … The national chapter of BLM has launched the #WhatMatters2020 campaign meant to advocate for policies beyond just racial justice, including gun control … Whether one agrees with these positions or not is irrelevant — they are controversial political issues that the SAFC has no place supporting with student funds. It would be just as inappropriate to donate to the NRA, the Federalist Society or any other conservative group. These are all controversial political issues that the SAFC has no place funding, let alone with your money …”

Good for this guy having the guts to call out such bullshit. More people, especially students on campus, need to stand up against it.

H/T: Campus Reform.

Gun control organizations launch voter rights campaign

CNN reports:

“The gun-violence prevention organizations March For Our Lives, Brady and Team Enough launched a joint campaign on Wednesday focused on voting rights in an effort to highlight the link between gun violence prevention and democracy. The groups are releasing a report, “Accessing Democracy: A Gun Violence Issue,” that focuses on four categories: voting by mail and absentee voting, voter registration, early voting, and restoration of voting rights … The tool kits will highlight information voters may want ahead of Election Day. Each kit includes polling location and voter registration information, vote-by-mail and absentee voting laws and early voting options, as well as the status of voting rights for citizens with misdemeanor or felony records. The kits also provide “action plans” for the states. For example, the Arizona tool kit instructs how to contact Gov. Doug Ducey and Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, including directing voters to a landing page that uses the platform FastAction to directly connect citizens to their representatives. There, they can send messages to officials asking for the government to “expand equitable access to voting” and requesting actions including mailing ballots to eligible voters, extending in-person early voting, repealing voter ID laws and supplying personal protective equipment to poll workers …”

At first inspection, this looks more like a general effort by leftist front groups to encourage people to vote.  Gun control groups have never been able to generate their own voting block around their issue.  Their campaign may have some success, indirectly impacting gun control efforts, but I still don’t see their issues as having gotten more popular with the public.

Nevertheless, this is something NRA and other gun groups ought to be doing at both the federal and state level as 2A does have a voting constituency.

Observations from the field

In the wake of the increased violence in cities across the state, are any of the Republicans in Albany calling for reform of state gun control laws, or at least highlighting the failure of Gov. Cuomo’s so-called SAFE Act?

No.

This is not an oversight.
