Pissing off the right people

A local Democrat functionary pisses off meathead Mom. The Yonker’s Times reports:

“A Facebook post last week by Yonkers small businessman and democratic political leader John Khader drew a harsh response from local gun safety —organizations including Mom’s Demand Action … On June 2, John Khader posted a photo of a gun with bullets, and commented “unconfirmed reports of protestors/rioters in my hood ready for anything … Barry Graubart, a member of Mom’s Demand Action in New York, responded to Khader’s post, writing, “I was appalled to see this post on Facebook and Instagram today, threatening protesters with violence with what appears to be a short-barreled pistol-grip pump-action shotgun. These weapons are often referred to colloquially as a “zombie killer” … “

That’s hilarious.

Barry Graubart is a laughing matter. Moms is a phony far-left gun control front group created by Mike Bloomberg.

“… John Khader said, “My post was in no way intended to promote violence. I overacted when I heard that there might be looting going close to my neighborhood. But I did it to protect myself and my family.” Catherine Schowalter, a member of Mom’s Demand Action in Westchester, said that, “It was the wrong thing to post. The 2nd Amendment gives the right to have a licensed gun in your house, but it shouldn’t be used as a threat to others.” Romano is running in a Democratic Primary for Yonkers City Court Judge …”

Wrong. The appropriate way to deal with the threat of violent rioters is with the threat of even more violence.  The hugs-for-thugs mentality is why part of Seattle is now governed by a warlord.

Justice Alito’s Second Amendment

Jake Charles writes at the Duke Center for Firearms Law regarding Justice Alito’s position in the NYSRPA v. City of New York case:

“… That brings us to NYSRPA—a civil lawsuit challenging New York City’s since repealed restrictions on firearm transport. There, Justice Alito devoted most of his attention to the mootness question. But he also went on to decide—as “not a close question”—that the restriction violated the Second Amendment. The transport law impacted “the same core Second Amendment right, the right to keep a handgun in the home for self-defense” as in Heller because it did not permit the necessary concomitants of that right. And “[o]nce it is recognized that the right at issue is a concomitant of the same right recognized in Heller, it became incumbent on the City to justify the restrictions its rule imposes.” (By recognizing the need for a justification after first finding the right burdened, Justice Alito might be seen as implicitly endorsing the two-part framework used by all the courts of appeals, and thus implicitly rejecting a categorical historical approach.) He went on to say that “[i]f history is not sufficient to show that the New York City ordinance is unconstitutional, any doubt is dispelled by the weakness of the City’s showing that its travel restriction significantly promoted public safety.” He found no evidence to justify the restrictions. He concluded: “We are told that the mode of review in this case is representative of the way Heller has been treated in the lower courts. If that is true, there is cause for concern.” …”

Mike LiPetri For Congress

Assemblyman Mike LiPetri is one of the better candidates running on Long Island.  He is looking to succeed Peter King in Congressional District 2.

His position on 2A:

“… I am a strong supporter of working men and women and our fundamental liberties as Americans including the 2nd Amendment. My opponent voted for legislation that strips gun owners of the right to bear arms without due process. I voted against this and am proud of my “A” rating and endorsement from the NRA. Law-abiding Americans have every right to defend their homes, businesses, and families and I will always fight to defend these freedoms …”

His GOP primary opponent is Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino. I believe the bill LiPetri referring to is the “Red Flag” seizure bill A-2689/S-2451 which Garbarino voted for.

NRA backs Caldarera over Malliotakis in GOP primary

I had a laugh after reading this:

“The National Rifle Association has fired a political shot in what had been considered a non-competitive Republican primary for the 11th congressional seat in Staten Island and southern Brooklyn. The NRA has endorsed little-known candidate Joe Caldarera over veteran state Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who is the heavy favorite to win the primary and take on first-term Democratic Rep. Max Rose in the general election …”

I don’t believe Malliotakis can beat Rose.  She ran a godawful campaign for Mayor.

“… The NRA gave Caldarera the nod after giving Malliotakis a C minus for her legislative voting record. She voted for the NY Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act in 2013 — gun safety restrictions that are opposed by the gun-rights lobby …”

She deserves an F. Inflating her grade simply because she is a Republican is not helpful to the cause.

“… The NRA said it gave Caldarera, 28, the endorsement based on his answers in its questionnaire. He has never held office or taken any votes to be judged on. “I have always been steadfast and strong in my support for our 2nd Amendment constitutional rights, and I am thrilled that the NRA has endorsed my campaign. Nicole Malliotakis does not share the values of the people of Staten Island and South Brooklyn, and I am looking forward to offering them a loyal conservative choice on June 23rd,” Caldarera said in a statement …”

From a practical standpoint, there’s no reason not to take him at his word.

“… Some independent political observers, such as the Cook Political Report, consider the 11th congressional district a toss-up in the general election …”

I don’t, not with Malliotakis as the alternative.

League of Women Voters SD-49 candidate forum
