Still don’t have the votes

For all the whining, crying and hair pulling done by the antis over the past few days, they still don’t have the votes to move gun control through Congress and the big media jerks are dumbfounded over this.

Worse (for them) the story is starting to get old.  Other things like the House voting to scrap Obamacare will push it off the radar.  The antis and their media allies are losing this battle and they know it.

Schumer doesn’t have the votes

Chuck Schumer acknowledges there aren’t the votes for more gun control in Congress.

Great quote from Tom Coburn:

… “The problem with gun laws is they limit the ability to defend yourself, one. But number two is the people who are going to commit a crime or are going to do something crazy, aren’t going to pay attention to the laws in the first place.” …

Ramping up the PSH

New Yorker Against Gun Violence is turning the bullshitometer up to 11.  They have a video of a shooter firing a Glock 18 on their website and are implying it is the same as the Glock 19 used in the Arizona killings.

Legislative Report #2

Legislative Report #2 is now online.

Strangely, Sen. Adriano Espaillat (D-31) is sponsoring a shall issue bill S-1863.  He was not our friend when he was in the Assembly.  Something funny is going on …

Laura Ingraham interviews Pete King

Laura Ingraham interviews Pete King about his dumbass gun proposal.  It starts at 1:40.

Reality sets in

Reality is starting to set in for the antigunners.  Their attempts to exploit the killings in Arizona for political gain are not working.  All their PSH will not move gun control legislation through Congress.

In fact, there’s a growing backlash against the antis building up both in Congress and the media for their biased coverage.

Draft of McCarthy magazine bill

Here is a draft copy of Carolyn McCarthy’s magazine prohibition bill and “Dear Colleague” letter.

I don’t see it even getting a committee hearing in the House.

COBIS passes 300K mark

Last figures from CoBIS:  As of last December 303,441 shell casings have been entered into the system.  Number of crimes solved because of it: 0.

No, Pete

John Boehner put Pete King in his place:

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is rejecting gun-control legislation offered by the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee … Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) announced plans Tuesday to introduce legislation prohibiting people from carrying guns within 1,000 feet of members of Congress … King’s legislation got the cold shoulder from Boehner and other Republicans after it was announced.  Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said the Speaker would not support King’s legislation …”

King was just grandstanding and sucking up to Mayor Bloomberg and everyone knows it.

Ethics, and the lack thereof

This is just too funny, “Senate Mandates Ethics Training“:

“… New York Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos today announced that he will require all Senators and Senate staff to participate in ethics training in conjunction with the Legislative Ethics Commission. The training will have to be completed by all Senators and Senate employees by April 1, 2011 …”

I have to laugh.  There’s been a constant parade for years of Albany politicians being busted for all sorts of bad behavior.  Rather than waste time on this feel-good ethics training, here’s some helpful tips to remember for politicians who get elected to high office:

  • Beating your woman upside the face with a bottle is bad.
  • Assaulting photographers and breaking their equipment is bad.
  • Roughing up traffic agents about to write you a ticket is bad.
  • Biting police officers is bad.
  • Assaulting members of your staff is bad.
  • Strong arming judicial candidates into hiring your cronies is bad.
  • Misappropriating money from non-profits you’ve funneled money to is bad.
  • Embezzlement is bad.
  • Fraud is bad.
  • Soliciting bribes is bad.
  • Petty larceny is bad.
  • Having one more for the road is bad.

While this list is hardly all encompassing, I believe it’s a good starting point.
