If this law had been in effect at the Tucson shooting, Loughner would have simply ignored it, just as he was ignoring the law against murdering people.
However, Joe Zamudio, the armed private citizen, a CCW holder who heroically ran to the rescue of those who were under fire, would have been made into a criminal by Rep. Peter King’s ignorant and inappropriate proposal.
Rep. King said that this law would be a tool for security to use, but Congresswoman Giffords had no security.
Murderers ignoring yet another law, heroic citizens made into criminals, and politicians foolishly and completely ignoring their own need for security is no way to run a country.
How about a law that requires new members of Congress to have at least one hour of formal security training when they’re elected, so that they’re officially informed at least once in their careers that they have a personal responsibility to keep their heads where the sun shines. Would that be asking too much of Congress?

After it becomes law, we can use this 1000 foot gun ban as leverage to shoehorn our .50 caliber rifle ban law into place. Rep. King is quite the Marxist strategist!
