Speaking of astroturf

Speaking of astroturf, the antis tried yet another protest outside NRA’s lobbying office in D.C.  It was organized by New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and an assortment of lunatic left groups.

According to The Washington Examiner:

“A generous estimation of the crowd size would have been about 100 people, including members of the media.”

FAIL.

Schumer elaborates

Sen. Schumer elaborates on his previous comments:

“… Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said the “broad middle” will continue to press for action on a measure hammered out by a pair of pro-gun senators that would expand background checks on gun purchases …”

Translation:  More astroturf.

This has not gone very well so far.  Because the antigunners cannot generate any significant turnout by themselves, Schumer/Obama/Cuomo have turned to traditional left-leaning groups not otherwise associated with gun control for help.  This didn’t work when Cuomo tried it with the unions and Schumer’s dog and pony show with the Obama-zombies wasn’t any better.

Any details on the legislation?

“… “My own little prediction – I think we’re going to bring this bill back before the end of the year and I think you may find some changes,” said Schumer, during a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.  “We may change the bill a little bit – but I think you may find some changes out there in the public.  Lots of senators who thought it was safe to vote against it because of the intensity are not so sure anymore.” …”

Translation: Same bill, but with more B.S. marketing.

Schumer: Round 2 coming up

Notice he does not say on which bill.

Reality sinking in

Political reality starts sinking in at the New York Times:

“Is gun control dead after the Senate failed to pass so much as an expansion of background checks?  The White House thinks it’s not — that there will be another chance to have this fight in the future … It’s possible that the White House, Democrats in Congress who believe in gun regulation, and outside groups like Ms. Giffords’ can keep up the pressure on this issue until the 2014 elections, and better educate Americans on the state of play.  But it is going to be a hard task for groups that in recent times have not shown the organization, drive or single-mindedness that exists on the right.”

It must have been painful for them to write that.  Nevertheless, they still refuse to admit gun control is unpopular with the American public, believing the antis (and the Times) can “better educate” the redneck sister-fuckers who are too stupid to buy into their agenda.  Therein lies their fatal logic fault: The public is better educated on the issue than they were twenty years ago.  That is the reason the antis failed.

Seeing the writing on the wall

NRA President David Keene saw gun control going down to defeat in the Senate months ago:

“… The Toomey-Manchin amendment was defeated in the Senate by a 54–46 vote.  Keene said he saw the victory coming; he was confident, he claims, as far back as February, when he arrived at a rally in Albany, N.Y., to find thousands of supporters waiting for him on a cold, rainy day.  Together, they railed against Andrew Cuomo’s gun legislation — which, as it turned out, proved to be more drastic, far-reaching, and successful than any of the bills proposed on the federal level.”

All our opposition is able to turn out is astroturf.  And yet, the antis media allies are still unwilling to admit why their side lost.

Cuomo’s continuing decline

The SAFE Act continues to erode public confidence in Governor Cuomo.  Inside the latest poll are these nuggets:

  • Is New York on the right track or wrong track?  48% – 42%
  • Re-elect Cuomo in 2014 or prefer someone else?  53% – 39%
  • Cuomo makes decisions on what he thinks is best for the public or what is best for him?  49% – 48%

Schumer/Obama astroturf rally

Chuck Schumer held a “rally” outside his Manhattan office yesterday which the Daily News was more than happy to cover.

Close inspect of their photographs reveals the astroturf nature of the protesters.  If the professionally printed signs weren’t obvious enough, “Bococa for Action” is written on one.  They’re a bunch of Obama zombies.

Bull Moose Sportsmen’s Alliance

Yet another astroturf effort, “Hunters’ group tries to chart new course on guns“:

“Gaspar Perricone got a child-size .22-caliber rifle for his first birthday.  In high school, he went duck hunting before class and stowed his shotgun in his pickup.  Then he went to work for a Democratic U.S. senator and formed a group to promote hunting and fishing issues …”

Right off the bat, this is a red flag.

“… The group Perricone co-founded with another former aide to Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado, The Bull Moose Sportsmen’s Alliance, took the unusual step this month of releasing a poll that showed wide support among hunters for universal background checks …”

Democrat party functionaries release a poll showing support for Democrat proposals.  Shocking!

“… Perricone followed up with a piece in the Washington-based publication Politico arguing for such a plan.  And he met with President Barack Obama during the Democrat’s trip to Denver this month to promote Colorado’s state-level gun-control initiatives …”

Democrat party functionaries meet with Democrat politicians to promote Democrat proposals.  Even more shocking!

“… “We are pro-gun, there’s no two ways about that,” Perricone, 29, said recently in an interview, stressing that his group opposes bans on assault weapons or high-capacity magazines.  “But we’re also mothers and fathers. … We don’t want to see another Newtown.”…”

This is the same old I support the 2nd Amendment, but … line the antis have been using for years.  Can’t they come up with something new?

Notice, too, the typical leftist tactic of changing the subject.  Instead of explicitly stating he is for more gun control, Perricone changes the subject to something which sounds much less controversial, but which still implicitly advocates the original hardcore gun control position.

“… Perricone and [Tim] Mauck founded Bull Moose in February 2010.  Within months, its political wing spent $117,000 to help Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet in Colorado fend off a Republican challenger in November … The group spent $17,000 helping Democrat Martin Heinrich win a Senate seat in New Mexico last year … Some gun enthusiasts have speculated that Bull Moose is simply a well-funded outfit that pretends to represent grass roots while pushing an agenda favored by its financial backers …”

No kidding.

As if all this wasn’t enough, BMSA is tied to the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership which was founded by a large grant from Pew Charitable Trusts.   TRCP had served as incubator for the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance which itself was founded in part to give political cover to pro-union, but often antigun, Democrat candidates.

How many more of these phony front groups do the antis have to create before it sinks in that gun owners ain’t buying any of this?

Cuomo’s job is to offend people

Gov. Cuomo believes it is his job to offend people:

“Gun control for me was a difficult vote.  I offended people on the gun control vote but that’s why I’m here …I believe it with every cell in my body it will save lives …”

Being a dick is not a job requirement for Governor of New York.  This seems to be the root of his problem.
