License restrictions go away

WKTV reports:

“… Oneida County’s assistant pistol licensing officer says it removes the distinction between unrestricted and sporting licenses. “If they sign off to give somebody a license, all licenses are unrestricted, full carry, carry-concealed licenses,” says Oneida County’s Assistant Pistol Licensing Officer, Dan Sullivan. Sullivan says all of the current sporting licenses in the county will automatically become unrestricted …”

The restrictions don’t exist in the penal code anyway.  They came about by judicial fiat in a court case ~25 years ago.

NYC calling for new carry law

The NYC City Council is expected to pass a resolution calling for the state legislature to enact a new restrictive carry law.

SCOTUS nukes Sullivan Act

SCOTUS just nuked the Sullivan Act in a 6-3 decision.

The reaction from electeds has been hilarious.

Albany, however, won’t let this ruling go unchallenged. I expect the legislature will be called back over the summer to pass new restrictions. It will be a broad-based attack, throwing everything up against the wall to see what sticks.

Reporting on the trafficking of “illegal” firearms

New bill introduced to the City Council, Int 0518-2022:

“This bill would require the Mayor’s Office to Prevent Gun Violence to coordinate with the Police Department to conduct a study and submit a report on the illegal transportation of firearms. The study and report would need to identify the locations where firearms have been seized or surrendered in the City, and specifically the locations where firearms that have been connected to a crime have been seized or surrendered in the City, including the type of firearm, the manufacturer of the firearm, and whether the firearm is a ghost gun or 3-D printed firearm. The study and report would also need to identify the ways states and municipalities coordinate to prevent the illegal transportation of firearms, recommendations for states and municipalities to increase collaboration to prevent the illegal transportation of firearms, and recommendations for federal, state and municipal policies to prevent the illegal transportation of firearms.”

This is a set up to using the new nuisance law to target firearms manufacturers and retailers.

Richard Aborn, the former head of Handgun Control, Inc., has always had a tenuous grasp on reality and even that thread is slipping away:

“The Supreme Court is on the verge of ruling on a case that could overturn New York state’s gun carry law … “The NYPD has always been quite careful about who they give permission to to carry guns and that has really kept the number of people carrying guns, lawfully, way down,” said Richard Aborn of the Citizens Crime Commission … But with the Supreme Court poised to overturn New York’s strict gun carry laws, the big worry is the people who have been issued permits to have guns in their homes … Conceivably, they could be turned into concealed carry permits because of the Supreme Court decision … Aborn says another concern is whether relaxed permit rules will spark a demand for new permits from people who now don’t own a weapon.“

Not only is that going to happen, it’s who those new gun owners will likely be: Working-class blacks and browns in run down neighborhoods in the Bronx and Brooklyn.  That’s why politicos from the City are shitting themselves.  They do not want that.
