Times endorses Yassky

The Times endorsed David Yassky for Comptroller:

“… We are particularly impressed with Mr. Yassky’s ability to think creatively and then implement his ideas. Mr. Yassky, who taught at Brooklyn Law School earlier in his career, has a somewhat professorial manner. But in his years at City Hall, he has successfully fought to control guns in the city, to lessen pollution from taxis and to ban illegal dumping in the waters around the city …”

This endorsement is laughable and shows why Yassky is unqualified to be Comptroller.  What does any of this have to do with managing the City’s finances?  Absolutely nothing.

Bad news for Aborn

Leslie Crocker Snyder is rolling over Richard Aborn in the Manhattan D.A. race:

David Yassky, the best person for the job?

More nonsense from David Yassky in the Daily News:

“Why are you the best person for the job? The job of the Comptroller is to fight the special interests to root out waste, to demand accountability and results through innovation, and to help get the City’s economy back on track. I have the strongest record of doing just that. I … stood up to the NRA and powerful gun lobby in Washington while working for Chuck Schumer to pass the Brady Bill and Assault Weapons Ban …”

No, Dave.  According to the Comptroller’s website:

“… the mission of the office is to ensure the financial health of New York City by advising the Mayor, the City Council, and the public of the City’s financial condition. The Comptroller also makes recommendations on City programs and operations, fiscal policies, and financial transactions. In addition, the Comptroller manages assets of the five New York City Pension Funds, performs budgetary analysis, audits city agencies, registers proposed contracts, etc …”

The fact Yassky doesn’t understand the job he’s running should explain why he’s running third in the latest poll by WABC-TV.

Serrano robocalls for Aborn

Grasping at straws

Richard Aborn admitted he is the underdog in the campaign to become Manhattan D.A. so he’s trying a desperate attack on his opponent Cy Vance.  From today’s Daily News, “Critics put DA candidate Cy Vance Jr. under gun for campaign contribution to opponent of gun control“:

“Manhattan district attorney candidate Cy Vance Jr. – who lived in Seattle for 16 years – donated money to a Republican there who fought against gun control. An examination of Vance’s time in Seattle showed he gave $1,000 in 1998 to Christopher Bayley, a GOP Senate candidate who attacked the incumbent Democrat for supporting mandatory trigger locks and a ban on semiautomatic firearms. Bayley, a former prosecutor in the Seattle area, sent gun owners across the state literature backing a proposal to let visitors to Washington state carry a concealed pistol if they had an out-of-state license …”

Too bad Bayley isn’t running for Manhattan D.A.

“… Richard Aborn, one of Vance’s opponents in the Democratic primary, jumped on Vance’s support of Bayley, calling it wrongheaded. “Manhattan residents can be assured that anti-choice, anti-gun control, anti-affirmative action zealots running for office will never have my support,” Aborn said …”

Of course Aborn’s going to jump on this. What else does he have to talk about?  The fact he hasn’t tried a case since the early 90s?

Plaxico pleads gulity

It appears Plaxico Burress isn’t a big enough celebrity to totally ignore the Sullivan Law, but he was able to plead guilty to a lesser charge:

“Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to a gun possession charge on Thursday and agreed to a two-year prison sentence … Burress agreed to a deal in which he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, which is less severe than the two counts of criminal possession and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment …”

Schneiderman goes shooting

Eric Schneiderman goes to the range (center, David Valesky at right.)

From the press release:

“… “The Senate Codes Committee deals with law enforcement and criminal justice related legislation, which impact communities and constituents across Central New York,” said Senator Valesky, Vice President Pro-Tempore of the Senate. “I wanted to bring Senator Schneiderman here so people had the chance to speak to him about issues like anti-gang violence programs, illegal gun trafficking and also responsible gun ownership, and share their unique Central Upstate New York perspective.” …”

I don’t think Eric cares about the unique CNY perspective.

“… “I want to thank Senator Valesky for giving me the opportunity to engage in a productive dialogue with the people of Central New York on criminal justice issues. All stakeholders in this conversation – sportsmen and women, law enforcement officials and anti-illegal gun advocates — must have a seat at the table,” said Senator Schneiderman …”

All stakeholders?  Then why didn’t anyone from the R&P or NRA get an invitation?

“… “I am confident that more discussions like these will illuminate the areas where we can all find common ground, while promoting greater appreciation of the different public safety concerns of communities across the state.” …”

It’s far more likely that you’re hoping you can convince the Fudds to go along with your gun control schemes just like Pataki did in 2000 with his semi-auto ban.
