Here’s a link to the new Cuomo gun prohibition bill S-2230.

The bill was not made available to Senators for more than a couple of minutes before voting late last night.  New York is keeping our fine Tammany tradition alive.  Big Tim would be proud.

Greg Ball and Kathy Marchione stood up for us.  The ones from Long Island did not.  The Post has some details, “State Senate OKs assault weapon crackdown.

The Assembly is scheduled to vote on the bill today.

 

The real agenda

Some agenda rumormongering.

On Cuomo’s goals:

“Times reports that what Gov. Andrew Cuomo yesterday described as “the toughest assault weapons ban in the country” would copy California’s definition of forbidden firearms. In addition to a list of specific models, California’s law covers guns that meet certain criteria …”

On Obama’s goals:

“… The Obama administration is pushing back hard on a Friday New York Times report that Vice President Biden and White House officials have calculated it’s politically impossible to get an assault weapons ban through the divided Congress and have therefore shifted their focus to other more palatable gun violence prevention aims like universal background checks and regulations on high-capacity magazines … While a failure by Obama to deliver a ban after his strong words following the Newtown shooting would likely be seen as a political loss in general, gun control advocates in particular say otherwise. The priority for them, they say, is universal background checks …”
