City Council declares Times Square a “sensitive area”

The City Council passed two gun control bills today:

  • INT 518A-2022, Requires the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice to coordinate with the New York City Police Department to conduct a study and issue an annual report to the Mayor and City Council Speaker on the trafficking of illegal firearms into New York City.
  • INT 602-2022, For the purposes of state penal law definition of sensitive area for the carrying of guns, defines the area commonly known as Times Square. Also authorizes the New York City Police Department to promulgate such rules as may be necessary to implement the bill, including rules applicable, as appropriate, to persons with a firearms license who live or work in the area commonly known as Times Square.

Both bills go to Mayor Adams for signing.

Niagara Co. resolution opposing restricting gun rights

The Niagara Co. legislature passed resolution IL-095-22 opposing the state’s actions to restrict gun rights at last night’s meeting.

SAF files lawsuit

The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a new lawsuit challenging carrying firearms in “sensitive places.”

The case is Boron v. Bruen.

Albany Co. gun control items on the agenda

The Albany Co. Legislature will meet today at 6:30pm. On the calendar are proposed Local Law J, mandatory firearms storage, proposed Local Law K, banning deadly weapons from county properties, and proposed Local Law M, requiring distribution of “Illegal Firearm Awareness Notices.”

Pressuring credit card companies

The latest attack by the antis is to pressure credit card companies to create a special code for gun stores to use when processing transactions. They claim it will allow law enforcement to identify suspicious transactions. What it really is another attempt to get the banking industry to stop doing business with the firearms industry.

On Monday NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, trustees of the NYC Retirement Systems, other elected officials and gun control advocates will put on a dog and pony show at 2:00pm on the steps of City Hall calling for credit card companies to fully implement this scheme.

Albany Co. proposed Stop Illegal Guns Now (SIGN) Law

Albany Co. Legislature Republican Conference Leader Frank Mauriello introduced proposed Local Law M, the “Stop Illegal Guns Now (SIGN) Law” which would require that at every notice-required home visit county personnel shall distribute a notice about the danger of “illegal” guns and how to dispose of them.
