The Daily News has the latest poll data on the Manhattan D.A. race: Cy Vance is at 30%, Leslie Crocker Snyder at 24% and Richard Aborn at 15%.
NRA’s Mayors mailing
Turns out the Roefaro mailing is just one of many NRA is doing against MAIG members. Middletown NRA members got one too and I’m guessing they went out to all members living in MAIG districts across the country. The “orange cards” urge members to contact their mayors and urge them to drop out of the coalition.
Hillary for Governor?
Sean Hannity just said on his radio show that Hillary may step down as Secretary of State to run for Governor of New York next year.

Roefaro mailing
NRA is taking at shot at Utica Mayor David Roefaro. The Observer-Dispatch reports:
“Members of the National Rifle Association and the administration of Mayor David Roefaro verbally fired back and forth Wednesday, after an NRA mailer targeting the mayor showed up in some city mailboxes. The mailer focused on the Roefaro’s involvement of “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” … “They claim they are for illegal guns, yet every single one of their proposals goes after law-abiding gun-owners,” said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulandam …”
The Mayor’s response is amusing:
“… “Andrew’s obviously speaking on behalf of an organization that has lost touch with not only the roots of the second amendment but also the roots of public safety,” said Roefaro …”
Roefaro is up for re-election in ’11.

Unwilling to deal with the real issues, Albany politicos want to move forward with recommendations from their so-called Gun Violence Task Force.
Assembly Republicans take a shot at Addie Russel over a mailing encouraging people to buy their hunting licenses before the October 1 fee increase:
… “Assemblywoman Russell voted to hike sportsmen fees on licenses and is now trying to cover her tracks by warning sportsmen of the impending fee hikes. This double talk is just another example of Assemblywoman Russell voting with the status quo in Albany,” …
The Syracuse Gun Show is next weekend at the State Fairgrounds. The R&P will be there.
Vote early, vote often
Next Tuesday is primary day and “orange cards” have already begun arriving in members mailboxes. There is only one endorsement, John Greene for Kent Town Board in Putnam Co. He is a R&P member and President of the local Pheasants Forever chapter. The rest are all recommendations to vote against incumbents or candidates. They are as follows:
New York City:
- Richard Aborn is in a 3-way primary for Manhattan District Attorney. He’s the former head of Handgun Control (now the Brady Campaign).
- David Yassky is in a 4-way citywide primary for Comptroller. He wrote the Brady Bill when he was an aide to then Congressman Chuck Schumer.
Bloomberg’s Mayors:
- Middletown Mayor Marlinda Duncanson lost party backing and made a big deal out of joining MAIG.
- Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan is being challenged by Joe Merrill. Merrill is making a decent effort to unseat Ryan.
City of Albany:
- Mayor Gerald Jennings and Councilmen Dominick Calsolaro and James Scalzo. Jennings abandoned his constituents and joined MAIG while Calsolaro and Scalazo have been sponsoring antigun bills in the Common Council.
Suffolk County:
- County Legislator Kate Browning and Brookhaven Town Boardmember Jane Bonner. They are responsible for attempts to close the trap & skeet range.
Turnout is always low for primaries which is why incumbents hate them. Even if they survive the challenge they have to spend a lot of money doing it. It is important to get as many gunnies to show up and vote as possible, especially in NYC. We have members and clubs in NYC and they can vote too.
Naked Cowboy drops out of race
The Naked Cowboy has dropped out of the race for NYC mayor.
Sadly, he was the most qualified candidate.
Lack of critical thinking
This bit of absurdity comes from the Working Families Party Man:
“… The NRA’s two-tower complex is filled with gun lobbyists, a museum and even a shooting range. But I couldn’t find one word about the thousands of Americans killed every year by guns. The receptionist told us that the NRA won’t allow him to have a gun at work, even if he wanted one. The NRA apparently thinks it’s safer with its own staff unarmed in NRA headquarters. Yet the NRA is working to force loaded guns into our own workplaces, schools, and communities. That was from an email sent by an intern at the Brady Center.”
If this were true, then why would NRA have a shooting range available to staff at HQ? Hello, McFly!
