Background checks for printer purchases

New bill intro by Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, A-8132, Requires a criminal history background check for the purchase of a three-dimensional printer capable of creating firearms; prohibits sale to a person who would be disqualified on the basis of criminal history from being granted a license to possess a firearm.

From the bill memorandum:

Three-dimensionally printed firearms, a type of untraceable ghost gun, can be built by anyone using an $150 three-dimensional printer. Three-dimensional printed guns are growing more prevalent each year. There were 100 taken off the streets of New York City in 2019. That number skyrocketed to 637 in 2022. Concurrently, ghost gun shootings have risen 1,000% across the nation. Currently, three-dimensional printers allow people to make, buy, sell, and use untraceable guns without any background checks. This bill will require a background check so that three-dimensional printed firearms do not get in the wrong hands.

Councilwoman arrested on gun charge

NYC Councilwoman Inna Vernikov made news recently when she obtained her pistol license.

Vernikov, who is Jewish, was spotted openly carrying a pistol outside a pro-Hamas rally and has since turned herself in to police.

This is the most pro-gun display I can ever recall seeing from an elected official in the state and while I think it is a step forward, it is still lacking.

Gov. Hochul has already chimed in:

Next, I predict Republicans are going to throw her under the bus.

Roc Against Gun Violence Action Plan

This is probably linked with legislation Congressman Joe Morelle introduced earlier this year.

GuardTech Plus product review

GuardTech Plus sent me a couple of their products for review, their Universal Gun Cleaning Kit and .223/5.56 Gun Cleaning Kit.

The Universal Gun Cleaning Kit come with an extensive assortment of tips, jags, mops, bristles and brushes which work with the included brass rods, all in a hard plastic carrying case. Also included is a .35 caliber pull string. It has everything you need to clean guns from .17 to .50 in a nice, neat package. It even comes with several picks to work out crud that accumulates where the other tools won’t reach.

As the name implies the .223/5.56 Gun Cleaning Kit is meant for .22 caliber firearms with up to a 30” barrel. It comes with an appropriate rod, tip, jap, mop, brush and a pull string all in a smaller plastic case.

While I personally prefer using pull strings, the brass rods will get the job done. All in all, GuardTech Plus is selling quality products at a decent price.
