The Cattaraugus County Legislature will be taking up a resolution 86-2018 at tomorrows legislative meetings in support of bills A-9614/S-7583 which extend the deadline for pistol license recertification until next year.

Update on Westchester gun show ban bill
The Westchester bill to ban gun shows on county property passed on a party line vote with all Democrats voting for and all Republicans against.
Given the popularity of the show it is possible the promoters could find a private venue to hold them again.
ECGOP Candidate Debate
The Erie County Republican Committee will host a debate with the three declared gubernatorial candidates Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, Senate Deputy Majority Leader John DeFrancisco and former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra this coming Saturday, Feburary 10 at 10:30am at the Daemen College Wick Student Center in Amherst.

Republicans have chosen Chele Farley to run against Kirsten Gillibrand this fall. Here is her introductory video:
In one of her first media interviews Farley went on the attack:
“… “When she was in the House, she was known as ‘Annie Oakley,’” Chele Chiavacci Farley told John Catsimatidis on his AM 970 radio show Sunday. “And now in the Senate people laugh and they call her ‘Jane Fonda.’ That’s quite a change to the left.” Gillibrand, from Brunswick in Rensselaer County, once had an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. But she has become an outspoken critic of the NRA and the need for stricter gun laws …”
I know nothing about Farley and she has zero name recognition.

As a follow-up to my previous post, the Watertown Daily Times reports, “St. Lawrence County lawmakers cite ethics issues with judges as pistol permit officer in resolution“:
“St. Lawrence County lawmakers want the state to grant authority for counties to remove judges as pistol licensing officers. In a resolution passed during the county’s Finance Committee meeting Monday, legislators unanimously passed a resolution urging the county’s state representatives to pass legislation regarding pistol licensure to create uniformity statewide … The resolution states that the legislators have long been concerned with the manner in which the pistol licensing occurs in St. Lawrence County, specifically with respect to the addition of restrictions, and asks state lawmakers, among other things, to grant counties the ability to designate a pistol licensing officer other than a judge … Monday’s resolution came after the Dec. 7 opinion issued by the state Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics that states “a judge who serves as a firearm licensing officer must not initiate licensing revocation/suspension proceedings … nor conduct one without a prosecuting agency.” …”
There is state legislation designating county sheriff’s as the licensing agent A-6912/S-908, but SLC legislators are not specifically endorsing it.

Cuomo doesn’t care
The pistol license recertification deadline was yesterday and it’s obvious most people have not complied.
The Lockport Journal reports that Governor Cuomo doesn’t care:
“… Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski and local legislators say they’re disappointed that Gov. Andrew Cuomo didn’t heed their calls to delay the deadline. “I’m very disappointed,” Jastrzemski said … “We called for the extension and the extension was not listened to, and the law remains as it is. And the governor is going to have to deal with the consequences from not extending it,” state Sen. Rob Ortt said in a statement Wednesday …”
Actually, license holders are the ones who have to deal with consequences, not Cuomo. The Republicans can’t even put up a creditable challenger to him.
