One of the big antis in the Assembly will be in a primary this September. Harvey Weisenberg is being challenged by former county legislator Jeff Toback for the Democrat nomination. Weisenberg has carried the mandatory storage bill (currently A-5844B) for years and gives the same BS speech on the floor about how it’s not a gun control bill.
“Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio will shake a lot of hands between now and election day, but perhaps none will leave as much of a lasting impression and those he shook while using the men’s restroom Saturday night during the annual Inner Circle Dinner at the New York Hilton Towers. As journalists, politicians, socialites and public relations gurus alike packed into the restroom during intermission, Lazio worked the room. Standing next to a urinal, the candidate was observed saying, “Rick Lazio – running for governor.” and shaking hands …”
This is so very, very wrong.
Carl Paladino now has a website: Paladino for the People. He does have a position statement on the RKBA under Issues and under Coalitions he has a Sportsmen for Carl where those interested in guns can sign up. It’s a bit early to determine whether his campaign will take off or not.
If nothing else, at least he’s entertaining:
“… “I am not impressed that you kissed enough asses to chair a committee of politicians in the Congress,” Paladino said in a letter to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-Manhattan), chairman of a House Judiciary subcommittee …”
“… Asked where he stands on guns … “I believe that people have a right to have their guns to defend themselves in their families. I have a very, you know, good relationship with the sportsmen in my area.” And he added, “I am for reasonable measures like background checks and waiting periods.” …”
Not much to get excited about. It’s still better than Little Ricky, though.
Legislative Report #21 is now available for download.
Good news from the 2nd Circuit Court which also covers New York State. The case of Kuck v. Danaher basically states the plaintiff has “a liberty interest” in his wanting to carry a gun. More at The Volokh Conspiracy, “Second Circuit Due Process Victory for Connecticut Carry Permit Holders” and Cato, “Due Process Victory for Concealed Carry Permit Holder.”
The Yonkers City Council supports a ban on carrying firearms while under the influence. In supporting this proposal, Council President Chuck Lesnick channeled Spiderman:
“… “Spiderman’s creator Stan Lee penned the phrase, ‘With great power comes great responsibility,’” said Lesnick in the press release. “Carrying a firearm is an awesome responsibility and there can be no tolerance for anyone who does so while drunk.” …”
Apparently, though, there can be lots of tolerance for elected officials who drive while drunk.
“The New York State Law Enforcement Council (LEC) unveiled its legislative agenda for 2010. The legislative priorities are … 3) requiring that all new semi-automatic weapons be equipped with microstamping technology …”
The New York State Assembly Minority Sportsmen Caucus is on Facebook.
