Gillibrand wants to limit 18-20 year old’s civil rights

Senator Gillibrand has introduced S.597, prohibiting the purchase of certain firearms by individuals under 21 years of age.

From the Olean Times Herald:

“U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is sponsoring legislation to raise the minimum age to purchase military-style semiautomatic rifles and high-capacity ammunition clips from 18 to 21, the same age requirement that already applies to purchasing handguns from federally licensed dealers … “Guns are the leading cause of death for children and teenagers in America today,” the senator said in a press statement. “Year after year, deadly assault weapons inflict devastating and avoidable harm on our families, schools and communities, causing children, parents and teachers to live with the fear that the next school shooting may happen in their community.” Gillibrand said the Age 21 Act “offers a critical safeguard to prevent such tragedies, decreasing the threat of gun violence against our kids.” …”

I don’t think we have anything to worry about for two reasons.

First, I believe only 2-3 of her bills have ever actually been signed into law and they were meaningless fluff, renaming buildings or something like that. If she intros something, it’s a solid bet that it won’t be going anywhere.

Second, the 5th Circuit recently ruled such a law unconstitutional and that followed a state law in Virginia going down in 2023. A new lawsuit was just filed in Massachusetts on this issue. It is not looking good for this type of law.

NYAGV endorses Alvin Bragg

The Amsterdam News reports:

… “District Attorney Bragg understands that safety and justice require investment in our youth and communities to prevent violence and crime before it happens and break the cycle of trauma,” said Rebecca Fischer, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, who recently endorsed Bragg’s re-election campaign. “Empowering our young people through leadership and engagement in their own communities is an evidenced-based approach to reducing gun violence.” …

This endorsement is meaningless as Bragg has no serious challengers and therefore NYAGV has nothing to do to back up their endorsement.

Nobody saw this coming. Nobody.

I have stated many times that programs like SNUG are just a money-funnel to politico’s loser friends back home.

Here’s the latest example:

Onondaga County District Attorney William J. Fitzpatrick announced the arrest of Cassieum Pitts and Ahmed Abdi … The men were each indicted on multiple counts of Official Misconduct and narcotics related offenses. These men where employed at SNUG, a state funded anti-violence program … Another SNUG employee, Cornell Sawyer, was also indicted recently for the possession of an illegal “ghost gun” that was found during a traffic stop by the Solvay Police Department.”

Trump’s EO on 2A

President Trump issued an Executive Order, “Protecting Second Amendment Rights“:

“… the Attorney General shall examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens, and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans …”

This is nice, but it needs to be backed-up with action in Congress, like publicly calling for passage of the federal reciprocity bill, H.R.38/S.65.

Babylon prohibits gun sales

The Village of Babylon passed a local ordinance at their last Board of Trustees meeting prohibiting the sale of firearms and ammunition within the Village.

The return of Cuomo

Andrew Cuomo is considering trying (another) political comeback, this time running for Mayor of NYC.

Assuming he does run, there is an opportunity for retribution for his phony SAFE Act, as other Democrats are also eyeing that position.

Cuomo has made a lot of enemies. I have been seeing webads targeting him, reminding everyone about his COVID response. A vote-for-anyone-but-Cuomo campaign may be doable.
