All about guns, legislation and politics in New York
Shelly Silver has been formally indicted on three charges including “Honest Services Mail Fraud, Honest Services Wire Fraud and Extortion Under the Color of Official Right.” He faces 20 years on each count.
The question now is, will he talk?
Yeah, this is going to work:
“The sale of machetes should be outlawed after several recent attacks, a Queens pol said Wednesday. State Sen. Tony Avella plans to introduce a bill to ban the possession of the scary blades in New York. “The fact that anyone can easily purchase this potentially lethal tool is just crazy,” he said …”
While the reciprocity bill isn’t technically perfect, it’s generating positive responses from our enemies:
“… The bill “would create a lowest common denominator that makes the weakest state requirements the law of the land,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, a group funded by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg …”
Freedom is the lowest common denominator.
“… “This bill is evil and dangerous,” said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence …”
The Brady’s are still in business? I have not heard from them in awhile. They largely faded away after being eclipsed by Bloomberg’s bucks.
“… “This bill is a menace to New York and would allow potentially dangerous people from other states to carry concealed weapons in our grocery stores, movie theaters and stadiums, without even notifying the police,” Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told the Daily News. “It is a nightmare for our law enforcement officers and the community, and I will fight this legislation tooth and nail.” …”
It’s a menace only to certain New York politicians who’ve built their career on the gun control lies. Have more people legally carrying guns inside New York City and crime will drop, just as it has wherever non-discretionary CCW exists. What will the Schumer’s of the world say then?
Neither New Yorkers Against Gun Violence nor Everytown/Mayors Against Illegal Guns have registered lobbyists in Albany this session.
The CCW reciprocity bill is back, “Bill would allow concealed weapons across state lines“:
“Gun owners would be allowed to carry concealed weapons around the country under new legislation introduced in the Senate. The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would allow gun owners who have a concealed carry permit in their home state to bring their firearms in any other state with concealed-carry laws. “This operates more or less like a driver’s license,” Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), the second-ranking Republican in the upper chamber, told The Hill. “So, for example, if you have a driver’s license in Texas, you can drive in New York, in Utah and other places, subject to the laws of those states.” …”
Having the #2 Republican in the Senate as prime sponsor is a good sign. This leads me to believe the bill will be sent to the floor sometime this session.
NRA can do better than having money-grubbing Ted Nugent as spokesman.

Trinity Church in lower Manhattan is trying to get Walmart to stop selling guns:
“… Rev. Dr. James Cooper, says he isn’t seeking a ban on the sale of assault weapons at Walmart. Rather, he’s fighting to force the world’s largest retailer to include a shareholder proposal in this April’s proxy materials, to be voted on at this summer’s annual meeting …”
I don’t believe that.
“… It was the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that proved the catalyst for Trinity’s legal action, says Rev. Cooper. He recalls having coffee hour chats with parishioners about ways to help, including shareholder activism …”
This tells me that the good cleric didn’t just think this idea up himself. One of the antis latest strategies is trying to get people to divest their shares in gun companies. See Unload Your 401k. This project, hiding behind astroturf front groups, is based out of Manhattan.
“… One of the smaller investments in Trinity’s diverse portfolio: about $2,000 worth of shares in Walmart …”
That means they own about 20 shares.
I get to vote on a bunch of stupid proposals like this every year. Generally any shareholder, or ones that own a certain minimum number of shares, can submit proposals to be voted on by all shareholders of the company. They all get shot down. Major holders own 51% of Walmart stock so there is absolutely no way this proposal can pass. This is a public relations stunt by the church, nothing more.
MidHudsonNews.com reports, “Mount Vernon mayor sentenced to one year probation“:
“Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis was sentenced in White Plains federal court on Friday to one year of probation and a $10,000 fine. Davis, 76, pled guilty last October to two counts of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns …”
Davis is/was a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
A bunch of Congressional Democrats introduced a 10-rd magazine limit bill.
Unable to produce any sort of genunie public support, they’re going with hashtag activism on Twitter: SayNo2MoreAmmo.
There has been a decision in NYSRPA’s lawsuit against New York City challenging Title 38. We lost. The legal team is reviewing the ruling and considering the options.
Here is a copy of the decision.
