Candidate Melodie Baker’s position statement

Following up on Chris Jacobs’ recent stunt, here is a brief position statement from one of the two declared Democrat candidates for the open seat in CD-27, Melodie Baker:

“… Raised in rural Texas and then moving to Buffalo with her family at a young age has had an impact on how Baker views a number of issues – including guns. Her letter to Chairman Zellner says she learned to shoot a 12-gauge gun before she was a teenager, and she tells Carter her family has used guns for generations to hunt meals. Baker supports the second amendment and the use of guns as tools, she says, but does not support their use as weapons. “I certainly think people who have a history of violence and mental health instability, need to definitely not have those guns and even the type of guns — AK-47s do not belong on the street …”

Sounds like she’s pandering to the Fudds while supporting the gun ban agenda.

As for the other candidate Nate McMurray, he appears to have the support of the Brady’s in spite of making some questionable remarks to his political opposition.

Longtime Long Island Congressman Peter King announced he is not running for re-election next year.  His age and the fact that the state will be losing two Congressional seats after the 2020 redistricting are likely the driving forces behind his decision not to seek another term.

He will not be missed.  A notorious RINO, he was known for being the GOP pointman on leftist issues especially gun control:

“A Long Island congressman has become the first House Republican to back legislation to ban assault weapons. Rep. Peter King announced his support of the bill that was introduced by Rep. David Cicilline in February …”

Jacobs’ campaign stunt

Senator Chris Jacobs proposed a new bill pertaining to pistol license privacy:

“New York State Senator Chris Jacobs announced today that he has introduced legislation (S-6834) that would tighten privacy protections for gun owners at the time they apply for their permits, as well as when they recertify. “My bill presumes gun owners prefer to keep their personal licensing and application information private from the general public, and it affords that protection by ensuring the information is only made public through a court order, or if the applicant chooses to allow public disclosure,” said Jacobs. “The automatic disclosure that exists today acts as a deterrent to applicants and an unnecessary infringement on the second amendment rights of lawful gun owners.” Under current state law, when a resident applies for a pistol permit, personal information such as name and address automatically become part of the public record and accessible to anyone conducting a public search. To maintain confidentiality, applicants must formally opt out of public disclosure when they first apply, and at all re-certifications as required under New York’s SAFE Act. Jacobs’ bill reverses the roles for permit holders by requiring they opt in to any public disclosure …”

Big deal.

I don’t see the 2A community jumping up and down for joy over this, not that it will be going anywhere with Jacobs being in the permanent Republican minority.

This is nothing more than a public relations stunt for his Congressional campaign.

It is already pretty obvious, but Spectrum reports,”New York Keeps Getting Bluer As Republican Enrollment Continues To Slide“:

“There are now 18,287 fewer active enrolled Republican voters in New York state in the three years since President Donald Trump was first elected, new voter enrollment statistics released by the Board of Elections show … The new numbers show there are now 2,630,555 active Republicans in New York, a decline from 2,648,842 GOP voters in November 2016. Democrats have added more than a quarter million enrolled active voters during that same time period — 273,684 voters, according to the new data … In the rear view mirror for Republicans is the growing number of voters who have chosen to not enroll in party or “blanks.” Statistics show there are now more than 2.5 million voters who do not identify with a party, a gain of 62,639 voters over three years. The ranks of the Conservative Party have also fallen in the last three years, declining by 4,224 active voters during the same time period …”

People are not putting up with the GOP and CP being little more than rubberstamps for Governor Cuomo and the far-left.

There is no alternative for 2A advocates but to be involved in Democrat politics.  Gun owners must attend their events, take part in their candidate selection process and vote in their primaries.  Even if all Republicans in the legislature vote in unison they have no ability to advance or block legislation.
