The other shoe drops

From Cuomo spokeman Richard Azzopardi:

“… “This simply acknowledges what has been said previously — the ammunition sales database will not be prematurely introduced until the technology is ready and it does not create an undue burden for business owners,” said Azzopardi.  The memorandum states that the database will be ”suspended” until funding and technology to operate it become available …”

From Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie:

“… “I did not participate in this ‘agreement,'” Heastie, a Democrat, said in a statement. “The law may not be ‘suspended’ by a memorandum such as this. I believe the law should be followed and implemented as intended.” …”

Smell it?

This:

Senate Republicans and Gov. Andrew Cuomo administration’s agreed to key changes in the sweeping 2013 gun control law known as the SAFE Act, according to a memorandum of understanding released on Friday afternoon …”

What the fuck does this mean??

“… The document, signed by Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Director of Operations Jim Malatras includes an agreement to suspend portions of the SAFE Act that created a statewide database for ammunition purchasers to undergo a background check — a project that was hampered by technical glitches since state officials sought to implement it.  The MOU stipulates that no state money will be used to maintain the database, while noting the leadership of the State Police has acknowledged there is a “lack of technology” for maintaining the database … At the same time, a ban on the Internet sale of ammunition has been lifted …”

I’ve followed gun politics in New York for over 20 years and never seen something like this before.  If you want to change the law you pass a bill through both state houses and the Governor signs it.  There is no mention of a bill nor any comment from either the Governor or Assembly leadership other than what is buried in this press statement from Senator Nozzolio:

It looks like Republicans want to claim credit for abolishing something which never went into effect in the first place. There is nothing in the MOU about internet sales either.

This whole thing smells.

God & Guns Part 2

One of the more detestable gun control activists is at it again:

“Activist priest Rev. Michael Pfleger has taken his battle against illegal guns to court.  He has sued three suburbs, claiming they haven’t kept a close enough eye on gun shops …”

Unlike the Reverend James Cooper, Pfleger is Catholic.  He derives his authority from the Archdiocese of Chicago.  Without the approval of Archbishop Blase Cupich, Pfleger would not be allowed to act as a priest.  All this gun control crap he’s been doing for years is being done with the full support of Cupich.  If he didn’t like something Fluffy was doing one phone call would stop it.

But is it true?

The Buffalo Chronicle writes, “US Attorney Hochul begins recusing himself, expecting his wife to become Governor“:

William Hochul, Jr. is the United States Attorney for the Western District of New York.  He is also the husband of Kathy Hochul, the Lt. Governor… In recent months, he has been recusing himself from cases involving local political operatives.  A source close to the US Attorney tells me that he “fully expects” his wife to become the next Governor of New York, likely by the end of the year …”

Is Preet closing in on Andrew?

Is that cell phone in your pocket?

The Daily News reports:

“Anti-gun advocates are blasting a new iPhone case that looks like a pistol grip — and could be mistaken for a real gun … Some of the cases come with an app that puts up a picture of a gun on the screen — completing the overall image …”

God bless capitalism.  Only in America could someone make a buck off a dumb-ass idea like this.

“… The gun grip cases, which can be purchased online or on the street, could no doubt doom young teens, community advocate Tony Herbert said.  “If I were a cop and it was dark and I saw this (case) on a person, my first thought would be to pull my gun and defuse the threat,” Herbert said Tuesday …”

You can count on self-appointed “community advocates” going straight for the PSH.

“… Herbert is pushing city and state legislators to ban the sale of the gun case … “We have to ban the sale of this item before lives are lost,” he said.”

Why not let Darwinism take it’s course?

Flanagan gave it away

Good op-ed by Fred Dicker about how Gov. Cuomo manipulates the GOP Senate:

“Despite public claims to the contrary, Gov. Cuomo worked behind-the-scenes with the Republican-led Senate to defeat Assembly Democrats … Cuomo, the de facto head of the state Democratic Party, defeated a range of Democrat-sponsored proposals supposedly on his agenda through a “two-against-one” strategy in which he allied with Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (R-Suffolk) against Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx), leaving Heastie no choice but to fold, the sources said.  “Throughout the negotiations, there was never any real difference between the positions of Cuomo and Flanagan.  It was two against one with Cuomo pulling Flanagan’s strings to corner Heastie,” said a source with direct knowledge of the secret end-of-session deal-making … “Not that there should have been, but if there was any doubt that Senate Republicans are nothing but a tool of Cuomo to use against his fellow Democrats, there isn’t anymore,’’ the source complained …”

This was pretty obvious.

“… “Flanagan had the greatest leverage any Republican could have over Cuomo, Heastie and [Mayor] de Blasio: the expiring New York City rent laws,” noted one of the state’s best-known Republicans.  “And how did he use it?  He gave it away, got virtually nothing for it, renewed the laws without extracting much of anything that could help Republicans out of the disastrous hole they’re in, not to mention help the state as a whole,” the source continued …”

Why not use this leverage to move the SAFE amendments bill?

“… Senate sources said Flanagan, like Skelos before him, was willing to take direction from Cuomo on most issues in exchange for an understanding that the governor wouldn’t campaign next year against Republican senators, who hold a bare one-vote margin over the Democrats.”

This is the same dumb-shit strategy the RINO’s have pushed for years despite the fact the undeniable result of this policy is less Republicans getting elected to public office.
