Telling it like it is

Telling it like it is:

“… Tom King, an NRA board member from New York who also heads the state Rifle and Pistol Association, called Cuomo’s comments “pure political theater.” “The governor is using a tragedy out in Oregon to try and rejuvenate a failed political career,” King said. “He’s trying to build it on the graves of the people who were killed up there.” …”

Bullseye!

“… Cuomo spokeswoman Melissa DeRosa called it “disappointing but not surprising that Tom King would resort to baseless personal attacks rather than discuss the merits of common sense gun control — it’s easier than confronting the fact that more than 80,000 people have died due to gun violence since Sandy Hook.” …”

Direct hit and Cuomo knows it.

Nobody was paying attention to him anyway

A few days ago Governor Cuomo called for a government shutdown unless Congress passed more gun control.

He’s backpeddling now:

“… “I didn’t call for a government shutdown,’’ Cuomo said Monday on WNYC, a New York City radio station …”

The internet says he did:

“Gov. Cuomo, speaking at the funeral of his murdered aide Saturday, urged Washington Democrats to shut down the government until they get a gun control bill that works …”

Cuomo is forced to retreat as nobody was paying any attention to him.

Already tried and failed with this

Hillary’s “new” gun control proposal:

“The day after the shooting that killed nine people at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College, Hillary Clinton called for a “national movement” strong enough to rival the National Rife Association, which she described as “an intense, dedicated group” of gun lobbyists who “scare politicians and say, ‘We will vote against you.’” Clinton, who has made new gun restrictions a regular feature of her speeches on the campaign trail, addressed the shooting at a rally in Florida on Friday … “Here’s what the other side counts on,” Clinton said. “They count on really having an intense, dedicated group that scare politicians and say, ‘We will vote against you.’” Republicans, she told supporters, “put the NRA ahead of American families.” … What Democrats need, she said, is a “national movement” to pass “new, effective gun control measures,” like her husband President Bill Clinton’s in the ’90s …”

This is the exact same thing the antis have tried and failed at for decades.  Bloomberg said last year he’d put up $50 million to create a grassroots counterpart to the NRA and all that money could buy was a re-branding of the same old astroturf.

DNC video attacks GOP candidates on guns

This video by the DNC shows why gun control is not a national issue. It is really lame and you can tell their heart is not in it.

Top shelf PSH

Top shelf PSH from Linda Stasi in her op-ed, “State Department must list gun-loving NRA as terrorist organization“:

“One terrorist group is responsible for more civilian deaths since December 2012 (the Sandy Hook massacre) than Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hamas and the Taliban. Yet it is the only nearly-state sponsored terrorist group that is not listed by the U.S. State Department as such. It is the National Rifle Association and for their unending lobbying that’s kept a lid on gun control we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists …”

This is why the Daily News is losing tens of millions of dollars a year and just fired a bunch of people.

We already know the answer

State Senator Ruben Diaz asks a good question:

“… “Last night, I watched President Barack Obama speak on national television about the massacre at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College. I was seriously disappointed that our President did not even mention that the victims of that slaughter were singled out and killed because they were Christians … How can it be that when other groups are targeted, they get the attention of the President of the United States, but when the victims are Christians, that fact is not even mentioned in his speech? …”

Diaz already knows the answer:  Because the President was busy trying to use the incident to push gun control and unconcerned about little things like the killer’s motivation that might divert attention away from his self aggrandizing screed where Obama referred to himself 28 times in half as many minutes.

They know they are losing

Both President Obama and Governor Cuomo are trying to make political hay out of the latest mass killing in Oregon.

They know it isn’t going to happen. You can hear it in their voices. Much of their anger comes not from the event itself, but from their inability to exploit it for political gain.

This sums up why Cuomo’s presidential aspirations went down the drain after losing his shit during his ’13 State of the State Address.

Bloomberg’s fake news outlet The Trace is attempting to make an issue of where the killer got his guns and that the local sheriff is opposed to gun control, but none of it looks to be sticking. It’s not that the public has become accustomed to these events. It is that the public has grown tired of the gun control advocates. As that starts sinking in, expect event more PSH from the antis.

Probably won’t work

Newsday reports:

“Three retired Nassau County correction officers and a retired deputy sheriff claim in a civil suit they’ve been unjustly denied special police-retiree gun permits and licenses by county authorities.  The suit, filed Monday in federal court in Central Islip, claims Nassau Sheriff Michael Sposato and the Nassau County Police Department have denied licenses to the four because of disabilities …”

This probably won’t work given that the 2nd Circuit ruled in the Kachalsky v. Cacace case that licensing agents are not obligated to issue pistol licenses to anyone.

“… “This suit is necessary to change how disabled officers, who served this county well, are being treated by the county when they want the same benefits that other retirees get,” said Frederick Brewington, the Hempstead attorney representing [the plaintiffs]. “None of their disabilities make them ineligible to own, purchase and carry firearms, and there is no good reason for them to have been treated differently.” …”

That’s the thing. They are not being treated any differently.  They’re getting the same screwing Nassau gives to everyone.

Cuomo’s personal failure

This isn’t going to happen:

Gov. Cuomo, speaking at the funeral of his murdered aide Saturday, urged Washington Democrats to shut down the government until they get a gun control bill that works …”

When I see stuff like this I wonder if the Governor is so out of touch with reality that he honestly believes this is a reasonable request or if it’s just he is so tasteless and classless that he feels politicizing the the funeral of a friend is acceptable behavior.

I cannot think of any way to underscore the public policy failure of Cuomo’s SAFE Act than this event.

Boehner out

House Speaker John Boehner is stepping down from his post and resigning from Congress at the end of next month.

Why wait?  He should do it now.

Hopefully the next leader will have more of a backbone and push a pro-freedom agenda including the reciprocity bill.
