CoBIS: 10 years of FAIL

This month is the 10th anniversary of CoBIS, the ballistic imaging scheme Gov. Pataki gave us as part of his 5-point plan back in 2000.  Here’s the stats:

  • Number of shell casings collected = 311,859
  • Money spent on the program = ~$40 million dollars
  • Number of crimes solved because of it = 0

Here’s our press release on it.

  1. Markie Marxist sez: “COBIS works great!
Number of law-abiding, private gun owners senselessly (it’s more annoying to them when it’s senseless) harassed: 312,000!
Amount of money ripped off from the private sector and completely wasted when it might have been used for law enforcement against our Marxist/warrior/hero/criminals: $40 million!
From the Marxist perspective, COBIS has been a great success! That’s why it’s going to stay in place in New York! We commies own this state! All your COBIS are belong to us! And your shell casings too!

Price of 10 years of COBIS: $40,000,000
Value of brass in 312,000 shell casings: $3700
Senselessly abusing 312,000 private gun owners while ripping off the taxpayers of New York State: Priceless

The State of New York spent $40 million on COBIS, and all the taxpayers got was $3700 worth of scrap metal! Ha! Ha! What a bunch of rubes!”

  2. That’s about $126 per casing – which is more than I paid for some of the guns they collected they brass from!
