Pardon Plaxico?

There’s some talk in the sports world about a pardon for Plaxico Burress:

“… If Paterson ultimately opts to exit the 2010 race, a pardon would entail no political consequences. If Paterson loses the primary (based on July polling, he trails likely opponent Attorney General Andrew Cuomo by a margin of more than two to one), a pardon likewise would create no fallout …”

Plus it would be fun to watch Mayor Mike’s reaction.

  1. Why should he get a pardon? I’m no fan of the strict gun laws here in New York but I’m not exactly seeing the miscarriage of justice in this case either.

Mr. Burress is one of the handful of rich and influential people who could probably have obtained the rare NYC carry permit. Instead of going through the process he opted to Mexican carry his gun while drinking and then had a negligent discharge in a busy nightclub. Someone could have easily been maimed or killed because of his negligence.

Do you carry your firearm while drinking? Do you carry it in the waistband of your pants with an exposed trigger? Is your motivation for carrying a desire to protect your expensive “bling” or a desire to protect your life and the lives of your loved one?

Mr. Burris deserves nothing but scorn from the gun community. If he gets a pardon while common citizens who behaved more responsibly and didn’t have negligent discharges continue to rot in prison then the only message you send is that a different standard applies for celebrity than for the rest of us.

  2. Mr. Burress was exercising his right to bear arms as protected by the United States Constitution. As such, he never should have been charged with gun possession to begin with. At this point, a pardon would be the best remedy for the unconstitutional infringement of his right that has been so wrongly inflicted on him by the arrogant and thug-like government of New York City. A government that thinks that it can do as it pleases, with gross disregard for the U.S. Constitution. Bloomberg disagrees, but even New Yorkers have rights as Americans – rights that shall not be infringed.

  3. THEY SHOULD THROW THE BOUNCER IN JAIL HE TOOK CLIP OUT OF GUN BUT NEVER CLEARED THE CHAMBER

PLUS HIS BUDDY WHO CROSSED STATE LINES WITH THE GUN WHERS THE BATF ON THAT ONE
