Historic moment for gun control

The Heller and McDonald decisions were historic moments in the fight against gun control.  The San Bernardo terror attack is another.  Not for the event itself, but because of the reaction by gun control proponents.  Their behavior has been so bad that I believe people who have never before had an interest in the issue will look at supporters as the lunatic fringe much in the same way gun rights activists have been doing for years.

The damage to the antigun movement comes not from Congress rejecting their agenda.  It does not come from the surge in new gun sales either.  Not even the unprecedented support by local sheriffs for carrying guns for self defense.

No, the damage to the gun control movement come from their own supporters, elected officials and media mouthpieces, who have gone so far out of their way not to acknowledge a blindly obvious attack by radical Islamists and blaming everything from gun control to global warming to postpartum depression that even a disinterested public can only come to one conclusion:

These people are totally fucking nuts!
The political fallout from this will be felt for years to come.

  1. I hope you are right. However, the problem is that the media keeps repeating the lie. As we know from WWII, if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes truth.

    Scary times.

  2. I’m amazed USA Progressive Liberals aren’t reassessing and resetting policies like European Socialists seem doing.

I’m beginning to believe there are a number of Americans that simply hate and resent basic beliefs of our Country. Maybe the answers to this strange observation are found back in the 60’s.

Put another way, you think Obama, HRC and their supporters really love this country and the People or, do love their own ideology?

This always seems a question emerging from the liberal ranks.

  3. Jacob, your insight here is the best that I have heard in a long time. I have heard all kinds of (anecdotal) confirmations of this from all the NY non-gunnies that I have hung out with. Definetly, they did enormous damage to themselves, and what applies here is the good old “just give em enough rope………” MSNBC IS SAYING WHAT YOU ARE EVEN REGARDING OBAMA’S SPEECH!! GREAT INSIGHT! They fucked up big time – LOL.

  4. The only (VERY) sad part is that lower courts have upheld virtually every single gun ban everywhere, and not once has Heller / McDonald served to protect 2A anywhere beyond the original cases (not withstanding the 7 rounds which was so absurd that its being upheld would have destroyed any credibility the courts might still have and one CC that will be re-reviewed and reversed in CA). If u read the cases, the lower courts are in outright defiance of Heller! If SCOTUS fails to give cert to our challenge, or even worse, comes down against us, Heller and McDonald will tragically end up being empty, hollow, worthless non-entities, G-d forbid.

  5. Sorry for the verbosity here, but to your point, I usually write rebuttal articles in my local paper. The daily news has become the old weekly world news (which I used to love with bat boy, half aligator half man found in swamp, ………), a joke. But the Times front page was great. In summary, “we know gun control won’t work (THEY ADMIT IT!!), but we see it as a moral imperative that will make us feel good, and we don’t care about the constitution or your rights, so just give up your guns cause we think you should, and we want to make you do it”. That is what they actually said! We need not even respond.

  6. Jacob. Is their very GREAT concern for NYSPRA with SCOTUS refusing the Highland case now?? The fact the the supposed conservative justices except 2 not hearing this is gravely concerning. I am afraid this is how they will win. I hope it but the possible outcome is more obvious. If Stephen Halbrook can work that miracle he is worth every penny. If he can’t convince them. We are all going to hell in a hand basket.

  7. I had not heard about Highland Park till now. I Googled it. This is a very sad day. The worst part of it is that Thomas and Scalia wrote a desent. THAT IS TELLING! They would not have done that if all the conservatives had agreed to wait for our case! I must, because of the disent, believe that this is our nightmare / disaster. Heller is now a hollow, worthless entity, and 2A is dead. Game over. Hope very much to be wrong, but I dont see it.
