Bill to eliminate NYC fees

New bill introduced to the City Council by Councilmembers Vickie Paladino and David Carr, INT 1008-2024, eliminates the fees for firearm licenses, currently $340+.

DEC wants to ban lead ammo

The Fudds at the Conservation Council and other “sportsmens” groups have been warned for years that gun control advocates would go after them directly and indirectly. Here is the latest attack:

“The DEC is expanding statewide the multi-year cooperative study of how increased use of non-lead ammunition for deer hunting can improve the survival of bald and golden eagles. Hunters statewide are now eligible for a rebate of up to $60 for the purchase of non-lead ammunition for use during the 2024-25 deer hunting seasons … DEC highly prioritizes minimizing risks to wildlife and people from lead hunting ammunition. Eagles can incidentally ingest lead bullet fragments when scavenging the remains left behind after a hunter field dresses a deer. The golden eagle population is relatively stable in the eastern United States, although a multitude of human-caused threats still exist. While the bald eagle population continues to recover in New York, research has shown that lead-related mortality slows population growth. The newly expanded study aims to determine whether this source of mortality can be reduced by increasing the proportion of hunters using non-lead ammunition …”

This is complete bullshit and the cowardly “sportsmens” groups won’t speak out against it.

The NYC watershed literally sits on top of lead deposits on both sides of the Hudson.  Bald eagles have nested there forever without issue.  Their population decline was due to pesticides, not lead.

Multiple bills prohibiting the use of lead ammo have circulated for years, most recently as A-2084A/S-4976A and A-849.  If the Fudds don’t change course, one day they will wake up and find their deer camp has been permanently closed.

All-in for gun control

Democrats are going all-in for gun control and will feature Gabby Giffords and other advocates in prime time during the DNC convention tonight.

This is counter to the Fudd friendly campaign Harris/Walz appeared to be going for earlier. Maybe they realized the Fudd vote isn’t real or more likely they just decided to give up any pretense of running a center-left campaign and going full communist. Whatever the reason, vote 2A this November.

Proposal to increase license fees in Westchester

A proposal to increase the fees charged to pistol licenses holders is being floated in Westchester.

Here is a draft of the bill (PDF).

The next scheduled meeting of the County Board of Legislators is September 16 @ 7:00pm.

Harris picks Walz for VP

Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate.

He supports the Biden-Harris gun control initiatives and is comfortable with NRA’s F rating.

Walz is clearly a Fudd:

“Twenty minutes into his state of the state address last April, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz turned to the issue of gun violence. The state legislature was considering proposals to impose universal background checks for buying firearms and a red-flag law that would temporarily bar people from buying guns if they presented a danger to themselves or others. Walz threw his support behind both measures. “I’ll go ahead and put my credibility up against anyone on this issue,” Walz told the lawmakers gathered at the Minnesota House of Representatives. “I’m a veteran and I’m a hunter. And for many years I was one of the best shots in Congress, and I got the dang trophies to prove it.” “But I’m sick and tired of talking about that,” Walz added. “Because I’m not just a veteran, not just a hunter, not just a gun owner — I’m a father. And for many years I was a teacher. And we all know damn well weapons of war have no place in our schools, in our churches, in our banks, for anyone who wants to live in peace.” …”

According to this op-ed at Slate, being a Fudd is a selling point:

“… Harris is likely betting that when it comes to gun policy, many of them will be persuaded by seeing a fellow Fudd at the Democratic nominee’s elbow …”

Gun control advocates have tried using Fudds for years to advance their agenda, but this is the first time I can recall anyone suggesting being a Fudd will help get them votes, especially Democrat votes. I do not believe that will work out the way Slate thinks it will.

NYPD enacts emergency rule in response to GOA lawsuit

The problem here is that then-Attorney General Dennis Vacco issued a formal legal opinion stating there are no provisions in state law allowing issuing of licenses to non-residents.

Bloomberg’s bucks

The Washington Post reports that former Mayor Mike Bloomberg pledges to spend big on candidates this fall:

“The political arm of Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun regulation group founded by former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg, plans to spend $45 million over the coming months to elect favored candidates in eight of the states that could determine control of the White House, House, Senate and local offices. The effort will include a new student organizing drive, with plans to hire 30 new organizers for volunteer recruitment drives at 32 college and university campuses in Arizona, California, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin … About 80 percent of the $45 million will go to television and digital advertising, according to a person familiar with the spending who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly … Everytown announced a $60 million spending plan before the 2020 election aimed at defeating then-President Donald Trump and electing more Democrats who support gun regulations.”

Bloomberg has made braggadocios claims like this before.  Sure, he can afford it, but will he actually put up the money?  Who knows.

There’s negligible real grassroots here.  It’s the same, tired phony claims gun control groups have made for decades and they’ve never, ever delivered a voting bloc for their issues.  It’s one person (Bloomberg) with a lot of money making wild claims knowing the regime media will not fact check him.

I don’t see anything new here.
