Fred Dicker’s annual winners & losers column for 2013:
“… Gov. Cuomo, after two strong years as a fiscal moderate and social liberal, emerged as the biggest loser of the year, spending much of 2013 pursuing the “progressive’’ programs he had once forsworn. These included … a ban on legally possessed semiautomatic assault weapons that are rarely used in crimes and other restrictions on gun ownership …”
No mention, though, that this cost Cuomo his shot at the presidency.
“… Other losers this year include … Republican Senate leader Dean Skelos, who caved in to threats from Cuomo and signed a “message of necessity’’ that jammed the anti-gun SAFE Act through the Legislature without debate, thereby dividing the GOP into upstate and downstate factions …”
No mention either that this may very well be what puts the Republicans into permanent minority status in the legislature.
Both Cuomo and Skelos totally misread public opinion on gun control and there is a price both will have to pay for it.
Fred made incredible sacrifices for the Second Amendment – lost a friend and a lucrative book deal!
I live in Skelos district and would like to see him face a primary challenge.
When Sheriff John Cooke of Weld County explains in speeches why he is not enforcing the state’s new gun laws, he holds up two 30-round magazines. One, he says, he had before July 1, when the law banning the possession, sale or transfer of the large-capacity magazines went into effect. Skelos ain’t getting my vote in my lifetime. Period. If he doesn’t get primaried I will vote Dem and wait to see if the RINOs down here wake up next cycle.
Simply put, King Cuomo, NYS Senate-critter Dean Skelos, NYS Senate-critter Charles Fuschillo & NYS Assembly-arshloch Brian Curran…Feh! All are shtick dreck.
I also live on Long Island, and Jack Martins, who I knew years ago would fuck us (I wrote and told NYSRPA at the time he was elected) will never again get my vote. I voted for him to keep the repubs in power. BUT PLEASE, no one who believes in freedom and our constitution could ever, in good conscience vote for a democrat (communist). PLEASE, vote for the conservative or the libertarian, as I will. As is the policy of medical practitioners “FIRST DO NO HARM”.
