Here are the results from yesterdays’ elections in the few races I’ve been following:
- Bob Turner humiliated David Weprin, winning CD-9 54-46% in a district with a huge Democrat enrollment advantage. There is no way the Democrats can put a spin on this.
- Endorsed candidate Gregory Johnson lost his race in AD-116.
- Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young lost the Democrat primary. Young is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. He is the 3rd MAIG member we’ve been able to knock out in an election.
- Albany County Legislator Wanda Willingham lost the Democrat primary. In 2009, Winningham was one of the sponsors of the proposed Local Law “A” ammunition records and registration bill.
A side effect of Bob Turner’s victory is that now the Democrats have to pick another Congressional seat to give up. New York is slated to lose two Congressional seats next year due to redistricting. It was thought that one would be an upstate Republican-held seat and one would be a downstate Democrat-held seat, District 9. With Turner’s win, the Democrats will have to pick another incumbent district for elimination. Carolyn McCarthy’s seat in District 4 was mentioned in the past.
