Protest on Long Island

There was another protest yesterday on Long Island.  According to Newsday:

“Hundreds of local gun-rights advocates lined Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge Saturday to demand the repeal of the state’s newest sweeping gun regulation.  The protest, led by a coalition of groups, was one of several rallies to take place on Long Island since Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act in January …”

Here’s some video:

Neither Cuomo nor Dean Skelos can be happy with this.  All the Long Island Republicans except Lee Zeldin supported SAFE at least in part because they assumed the issue wasn’t important to their constituency.

  1. Cuomo will be stuck in New York to stew in his own juices until he repeals his SAFE act. He will not be able to function as a national candidate until then. Even his own party understands that he is not a nationally viable candidate, so they will not be giving him support, because they don’t want to back an obvious loser.

  2. Cuomo looked like a national candidate when his approval rating was in the 70s. Then he totally lost his shit.

  3. In trying to (slowly) read and understand the Heller decision, as a layman, it is difficult to understand how NY state has any case at all. It would appear that the safe act is indefensible. This is reflected, particularly, by their incredible response within which they claim almost that the safe act is so good, that it must be constitutional even if it really isn’t. The Heller decision not only finds that the 2A is an individual right for self defense, unconnected to a militia, but goes farther to explicitely recite the need for the people to be armed to counteract a “politicized” standing army. Well how are you going to do that with a 7 round limit, and not even allowed to own a semi auto cosmetic replica of a military rifle? But hey, I am not a lawyer. Lets keep our fingers crossed that we have a real judge, and PLEASE SEND MONEY TO NYSRPA. THEY NEED IT AND IT IS FOR YOU, YOUR HOBBY, AND YOUR RIGHTS. I sent $200 yesterday. Wish I could afford more!

  4. Sorry. Correction to above. The right is to own / bear for any lawful purpose. It really does not get into self defense. OK, I said I am not a lawyer. Just a guy who is really upset with where this country has gone.

  5. Perhaps it’s time to entertain the idea of a new governor. Do we really want Cuomo “stuck in NY & stewing in his own juices? Yuck!
Cuomo’s 1st term is up in 2014. Steve McLaughlin is the 107th Assemblyman. He voted against the unSAFE Act and is considering a run for governor.
Some of us are funding a MoneyBomb to show our support and raise awareness.
