Homeowner shoots and kills burglar

“A homeowner shot and killed an burglar early Monday on the city’s west side, according to the Rochester Police Department. Officers responded to Avery Street around 4:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported gunshots coming from a nearby home. Police said a second call then came in from a homeowner who said he shot someone who broke into his home. Officers found the burglar in the kitchen. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the homeowner, who has a valid New York state pistol permit, and used a legally owned and registered handgun in the incident, is cooperating with the investigation. The homeowner did not know the burglar, who was on parole for a previous burglary conviction, according to police. His identity has not been released. Police said the home had been burglarized at least twice since June. Monday’s incident remains under investigation.”
