{"id":9183,"date":"2013-10-10T13:26:12","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T17:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=9183"},"modified":"2013-10-10T13:26:12","modified_gmt":"2013-10-10T17:26:12","slug":"one-bright-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=9183","title":{"rendered":"One bright spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/joelhotaformayor.com\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Lhota<\/a> brought up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ny1.com\/content\/politics\/ny1_political_itch\/190081\/ny1-itch-alert--joe-lhota-says-it-should-be-easier-for-new-yorkers-to-get-a-gun-permit\" target=\"_blank\">the gun issue<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Addressing a group of Tea Party members on Staten Island, Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota called for a streamlining of the city&#8217;s gun permit system, saying it should be &#8220;fair and speedy.&#8221; \u00a0&#8220;The city of New York, though, goes to an extreme with their, bureaucracy is not even strong enough of a word. It&#8217;s almost a level of harassment at a certain point and it needs to change,&#8221; Lhota says at the April 25 meeting on Staten Island. &#8220;There&#8217;s something that should be fair and speedy about being able to get a gun permit.&#8221; &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billdeblasio.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bill de Blasio<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/dailypolitics\/2013\/10\/bill-de-blasio-astounded-that-joe-lhota-supports-making-gun-permit-renewal-eas\" target=\"_blank\">was astounded<\/a> by this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230;\u00a0&#8220;I was astounded to hear Mr. Lhota talk about how we can make gun access easier. I found that entirely out of step with the views of the people of New York City. We&#8217;re having a searing debate over gun control right now, particularly in the wake of the Newtown tragedy,&#8221; de Blasio told reporters, saying he agrees with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mikebloomberg.com\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Bloomberg<\/a> on many weapons-regs issues &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/10\/04\/nyregion\/de-blasio-has-enormous-lead-over-lhota-poll-finds.html\" target=\"_blank\">more than 3-1 lead<\/a> in the polls, de Blasio is going to squash Lhota like a bug. \u00a0There is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/dailypolitics\/2013\/09\/bill-de-blasio-would-fire-tlc-commissioner-david-yassky-right-away-if-elected\" target=\"_blank\">a small silver lining<\/a> to this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Bill de Blasio &#8230; said Thursday that one of the first things he&#8217;d do as mayor is fire Taxi &amp; Limousine Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidYassky\" target=\"_blank\">David Yassky<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yassky wrote the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brady_Handgun_Violence_Prevention_Act\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Law<\/a>. \u00a0He ended up at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/taxi\" target=\"_blank\">TLC<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=289\">his humiliating loss<\/a> back in &#8217;09. \u00a0With less than a month to go befote the election, we&#8217;ll soon find out if de Blasio will keep his word.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D9183&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
