Sheriff<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;A Republican running for Saratoga County sheriff has turned a primary race &#8230; into a referendum on the way the department is led, and also on the state&#8217;s NY SAFE Act. \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gildersleeveforsheriff.com\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Gildersleeve<\/a> of Ballston Lake surprised many in the county&#8217;s Republican party by challenging <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zurloforsheriff.com\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Zurlo<\/a> of Stillwater, the party&#8217;s endorsed candidate for sheriff &#8230; On the trail, Gildersleeve rips into the state&#8217;s recently enacted gun regulations &#8230; A former firearms instructor and lifetime member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a>, he&#8217;s raised nearly $15,000 \u2014 all from July to August \u2014 including $9,000 from gun shops in Albany, Troy and Castleton-on-Hudson, according to campaign filings with the state. \u00a0He is endorsed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysrpa-pvf.org\" target=\"_blank\">New York State Rifle &amp; Pistol Association<\/a>. \u00a0Gildersleeve said the SAFE Act has grown into a major issue in the campaign. \u00a0&#8220;I would not actively enforce it,&#8221; he said. &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the Democrat primary for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalonews.com\/city-region\/erie-county\/sheriffs-primary-race-shapes-up-to-be-party-battle-20130831\" target=\"_blank\">Erie Co. Sheriff<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; [<a href=\"http:\/\/dunn4sheriff.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bert D.
