Harry Reid<\/a> has raised the white flag on gun control<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Senate Democrats<\/a> have abandoned efforts to pass a law this year expanding background checks for gun purchases \u2014 dealing a new setback to the drive for tougher gun laws after the Newtown school massacre. \u00a0In a meeting Thursday with a pro-gun-control group<\/a>, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said budget battles looming this fall will make it impossible to enact the background-check measure that failed to pass in April …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And our little Mayor ain’t happy<\/a> about it:<\/p>\n

“A day after Senate Democrats announced plans to abandon efforts to pass substantive gun control laws this year, a disgusted Mayor Bloomberg<\/a> accused Congress of being too lazy to carry on the fight – and warned of repercussions at the ballot box. \u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re going to keep going after senators that won’t [support gun control],\u201d he said in his weekly appearance on the John Gambling<\/a> radio show. \u00a0\u201cIf Congress won\u2019t [act],\u201d he added, \u201cwe\u2019ve got to have the public get up and say \u2018We’re not going to take it. \u00a0We\u2019re going to vote for somebody else.\u2019\u201d …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Therein lies Bloomberg’s problem: there is no “we.” \u00a0Gun control does not have an activist voting constituency and Congress knows it.<\/p>\n
