{"id":8179,"date":"2013-04-20T12:18:41","date_gmt":"2013-04-20T16:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=8179"},"modified":"2013-04-20T12:52:25","modified_gmt":"2013-04-20T16:52:25","slug":"bull-moose-sportsmens-alliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=8179","title":{"rendered":"Bull Moose Sportsmen\u2019s Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yet another astroturf effort, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/hunters-group-tries-chart-course-guns-083014071.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hunters&#8217; group tries to chart new course on guns<\/a>&#8220;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Gaspar Perricone got a child-size .22-caliber rifle for his first birthday. \u00a0In high school, he went duck hunting before class and stowed his shotgun in his pickup. \u00a0Then <strong>he went to work for a Democratic U.S. senator<\/strong> and formed a group to promote hunting and fishing issues &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Right off the bat, this is a red flag.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The group Perricone co-founded with another former aide to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markudall.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Sen. Mark Udall<\/a> of Colorado, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bullmoosesportsmen.org\" target=\"_blank\">The Bull Moose Sportsmen&#8217;s Alliance<\/a>, took the unusual step this month of releasing a poll that showed wide support among hunters for universal background checks &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Democrat party functionaries release a poll showing support for Democrat proposals. \u00a0Shocking!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Perricone followed up with a piece in the Washington-based publication Politico arguing for such a plan. \u00a0And he met with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\" target=\"_blank\">President Barack Obama<\/a> during the Democrat&#8217;s trip to Denver this month to promote Colorado&#8217;s state-level gun-control initiatives &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Democrat party functionaries meet with Democrat politicians to promote Democrat proposals. \u00a0Even more shocking!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; &#8220;We are pro-gun, there&#8217;s no two ways about that,&#8221; Perricone, 29, said recently in an interview, stressing that his group opposes bans on assault weapons or high-capacity magazines. \u00a0&#8220;But we&#8217;re also mothers and fathers. &#8230; We don&#8217;t want to see another Newtown.&#8221;&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is the same old <em>I support the 2nd Amendment, but<\/em> &#8230; line the antis have been using for years. \u00a0Can&#8217;t they come up with something new?<\/p>\n<p>Notice, too, the typical leftist tactic of changing the subject. \u00a0Instead of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">explicitly<\/span> stating he is for more gun control, Perricone changes the subject to something which sounds much less controversial, but which still <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">implicitly<\/span> advocates the original hardcore gun control position.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230;\u00a0Perricone and [Tim] Mauck founded Bull Moose in February 2010. \u00a0Within months, its political wing spent $117,000 to help Democratic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bennet.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Sen. Michael Bennet<\/a> in Colorado fend off a Republican challenger in November &#8230; The group spent $17,000 helping <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinheinrich.com\" target=\"_blank\">Democrat Martin Heinrich<\/a> win a Senate seat in New Mexico last year &#8230; Some gun enthusiasts have speculated that Bull Moose is simply a well-funded outfit that pretends to represent grass roots while pushing an agenda favored by its financial backers &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No kidding.<\/p>\n<p>As if all this wasn&#8217;t enough, BMSA is tied to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trcp.org\" target=\"_blank\">Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership<\/a> which was founded by a large grant from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\" target=\"_blank\">Pew Charitable Trusts<\/a>. \u00a0 TRCP had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ammoland.com\/2010\/03\/union-sportsmens-alliance-to-launch-as-stand-alone-entity\/\" target=\"_blank\">served as incubator<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unionsportsmen.org\" target=\"_blank\">Union Sportsmen&#8217;s Alliance<\/a> which itself was founded in part to <a href=\"http:\/\/newsgroups.derkeiler.com\/Archive\/Alt\/alt.politics\/2007-08\/msg01239.html\" target=\"_blank\">give political cover<\/a> to pro-union, but often antigun, Democrat candidates.<\/p>\n<p>How many more of these phony front groups do the antis have to create before it sinks in that gun owners ain&#8217;t buying any of this?<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D8179&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
