{"id":7505,"date":"2013-02-14T10:04:55","date_gmt":"2013-02-14T15:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=7505"},"modified":"2013-02-14T10:04:55","modified_gmt":"2013-02-14T15:04:55","slug":"you-can-smell-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=7505","title":{"rendered":"You can smell it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=7355\">Another reporter<\/a> appears to have realized that anger over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/01\/15\/us\/new-york-gun-bill\" target=\"_blank\">Cuomo&#8217;s gun law<\/a> isn&#8217;t going to go away. \u00a0Buffalo News Urban Affairs Editor Rod Watson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalonews.com\/Article\/20130213\/CITYANDREGION\/130219622\" target=\"_blank\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; In a nation founded with guns to oppose government tyranny, it shouldn&#8217;t surprise anyone that shooters won&#8217;t let <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Gov. Andrew Cuomo&#8217;s<\/a> gun-control power play fade from the spotlight. \u00a0Tuesday&#8217;s rally in Albany and another slated for Feb. 28 prove that the issue has legs. \u00a0So does <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/01\/31\/nyregion\/cuomos-support-suffers-big-drop-quinnipiac-poll-finds.html\" target=\"_blank\">his drop in a poll<\/a> after the law was rammed through using emergency provisions to prevent debate. \u00a0Put aside for a moment the irony of the governor now saying a law passed in secret <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CapitalTonight\/status\/296284806713597952\" target=\"_blank\">will become more popular<\/a> once people know more about it. \u00a0With other bills, that might be true. \u00a0But in this case, the more the public learns what a semiautomatic gun is \u2013 and what it isn&#8217;t \u2013 I&#8217;m betting the less likely they are to think Cuomo made a reasoned decision, rather than a political one &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s what I told the Times more than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/01\/30\/nyregion\/activists-seek-repeal-of-new-yorks-gun-control-laws.html\" target=\"_blank\">two weeks ago<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; &#8220;The more people see about this, the angrier they are getting,\u201d said <a href=\"mailto:jrieper@nysrpa.org\" target=\"_blank\">Jacob J.
