Juan Williams writes, “Terrifyingly large questions for Obama and Romney<\/a>“:<\/p>\n

“Here are really big questions for the big presidential debate on domestic policy on October 3rd in Denver … President Obama<\/a>, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence<\/a>\u00a0has given you an \u201cF<\/strong>.\u201d \u00a0They say the failure is based on your \u201clack of leadership\u201d the gun control issue. \u00a0In your first term, we have had three of the worst mass shootings in US History … Could you have done more to stop the spread of assault weapons and gun violence over the last four years? \u00a0Will you make gun control a priority in your second term? \u00a0Are you paralyzed by the National Rifle Association\u2019s<\/a> political clout? …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Just like the antis<\/a>, Williams’ either doesn’t get it or simply refuses to admit that gun control is not a winning campaign issue.<\/p>\n

There’s a reason for all the gun control rollbacks<\/a> the past few years and it is not<\/span> because of the NRA. \u00a0It is because the public knows gun control is a fraud and are not demanding their elected officials enact more restrictive laws. \u00a0Is the NRA somehow responsible for the inability of New Yorker’s Against Gun Violence<\/a>\u00a0to bring people to Albany<\/a> to lobby their issues? \u00a0Is NRA preventing people from showing up at Ladd’s weekly protests <\/a>outside the White House<\/a>? \u00a0The reality is that gun control is a unpopular issue pushed only by a handful of (unfortunately) well-financed and politically connected astroturf groups with negligible genuine public support.<\/p>\n
