As previously discussed<\/a>, some Democrat candidates are trying to make gun control an issue in their races in the hopes they can intimidate the Senate Republicans<\/a> into bringing the microstamping bill to the floor.<\/p>\n

One of those races is in the new AD-93<\/a> between incumbent Bob Castelli<\/a> and White Plains Councilman David Buchwald<\/a>. \u00a0Buchwald claimed<\/a> that by voting against microstamping, Castelli (who is a retired cop as well as\u00a0life NRA<\/a>\/NYSRPA<\/a>, firearms instructor, competitor, etc.), \u201cHe\u2019s been siding with the NRA and against Governor Cuomo<\/a>, and our law enforcement professionals.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Bob complained to the Westchestchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee<\/a> about it. \u00a0The result<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“… \u00a0Acting on complaints filed by incumbent Robert Castelli, R-Goldens Bridge, and Democratic challenger David Buchwald of White Plains, the committee<\/a> found that the Buchwald campaign was \u201coverreaching\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cmisleading\u201d<\/strong> in claiming that Castelli \u201cvoted against common sense gun safety reforms\u201d and \u201cvoted to allow someone convicted of domestic violence to buy a gun\u201d in statements to media and posted on its website …”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Committee doesn’t have any enforcement authority so they cannot force Buchwald to retract his assertions, but Castelli can use their decision to blunt his line of attack.<\/p>\n
