{"id":6149,"date":"2012-05-22T12:44:58","date_gmt":"2012-05-22T16:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=6149"},"modified":"2012-05-22T12:44:58","modified_gmt":"2012-05-22T16:44:58","slug":"gun-issues-in-cd-27-primary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=6149","title":{"rendered":"Gun issues in CD-27 primary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thedailynewsonline.com\/news\/article_9291f0f0-a3be-11e1-8629-0019bb2963f4.html\" target=\"_blank\">Guns are going to be an issue<\/a> in the CD-27 Republican primary between party nominee <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buffalonews.com\/city\/politics\/article779412.ece\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Collins<\/a> and challenger\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bellaviaforcongress.com\" target=\"_blank\">David Bellavia<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;David Bellavia, a Republican candidate for Congress, announced a \u201cSecond Amendment Coalition\u201d on Monday, a day when he also criticized his Republican rival, Chris Collins, for his previous participation in what Bellavia said was an anti-gun group. \u00a0Collins, the Erie County executive for four years from 2008 until 2011, said he was mistaken when he joined County Executives Against Illegal Guns &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>CEAIG was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org\" target=\"_blank\">MAIG<\/a> offshoot created by then <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Spano\" target=\"_blank\">Westchester Co. \u00a0Exec. Andy Spano<\/a> as a vehicle to promote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Bloomberg&#8217;s<\/a> agenda.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Collins said he was new to the county executive\u2019s job when he approved participation in the group &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Saying he didn&#8217;t know what he was doing helps to explain why <a href=\"http:\/\/tonawanda-news.com\/local\/x2039725306\/COLLINS-OUSTED-BY-DEMS\" target=\"_blank\">he lost that job<\/a> after only one term last year.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u00a0Collins said he is \u201cthe strongest advocate\u201d of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\">Second Amendment<\/a>, and he vowed he would have an \u201cA plus-plus\u201d rating from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a> if he is elected to Congress &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s an old rating he had from way back when he first tried running for Congress back in &#8217;98. \u00a0He should not count on it again now that he has a public record on the issue.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D6149&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
