{"id":5973,"date":"2012-04-18T16:12:05","date_gmt":"2012-04-18T20:12:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5973"},"modified":"2012-04-18T16:12:05","modified_gmt":"2012-04-18T20:12:05","slug":"feinsteins-actions-predictable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5973","title":{"rendered":"Feinstein&#8217;s actions predictable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/04\/18\/dianne-feinstein-concealed-weapon-bill_n_1434798.html\" target=\"_blank\">Huffington Post<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feinstein.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Diane Feinstein<\/a> is trying to block the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraila.org\/Issues\/FactSheets\/Read.aspx?id=189&amp;issue=003\" target=\"_blank\">reciprocity bill<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Feinstein informed party leadership that she would oppose the quick passage of two concealed carry reciprocity bills that critics argue would cause a &#8220;race to the bottom&#8221; in terms of concealed weapon law in the United States &#8230; &#8220;Besides putting domestic violence victims in danger, the concealed carry reciprocity bills would also create potentially life threatening situations for law enforcement officers,&#8221; Feinstein wrote in a letter to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reid.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\"> Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leahy.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She&#8217;s just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/USA\/Justice\/2012\/0413\/Trayvon-Martin-case-George-Zimmerman-trial-could-be-months-off\" target=\"_blank\">trying to capitalize on the Martin-Zimmerman shooting<\/a>. \u00a0I don&#8217;t see anything new here.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; In putting a hold on both bills, the <a href=\"http:\/\/nraila.org\/legislation\/federal-legislation\/2012\/national-right-to-carry-reciprocity-act-of-2012-introduced-in-us-senate.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012,&#8221;<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraila.org\/get-involved-locally\/grassroots\/grassroots-alerts\/2012\/vol-19,-no-12-032312.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Respecting States&#8217; Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012,&#8221;<\/a> Feinstein is denying them the easiest avenue of passage: unanimous consent. \u00a0The hold does not eliminate the possibility of passing the bills through regular order, with 60-vote requirements to start and end debate. \u00a0But it&#8217;s unclear whether enough support actually exists in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Again, this is nothing new. \u00a0I don&#8217;t think anybody expected the bill(s) to be brought up without a fight. \u00a0It is worth noting they acknowledge the vote count is uncertain, which is not what <a href=\"http:\/\/schumer.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Chuck Schumer<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503544_162-57326335-503544\/house-passes-concealed-carry-gun-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\">said in the past<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D5973&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
