{"id":5665,"date":"2012-02-25T10:38:10","date_gmt":"2012-02-25T15:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5665"},"modified":"2012-02-25T10:38:10","modified_gmt":"2012-02-25T15:38:10","slug":"the-myth-of-antigun-relevance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5665","title":{"rendered":"The myth of antigun relevance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The antigunners allies at <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/justice\/2012\/02\/13\/424213\/the-myth-of-nra-dominance-part-ii-overrated-endorsements\/\" target=\"_blank\">ThinkProgress<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/201202240004\" target=\"_blank\">Media Matters<\/a> are claiming that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrapvf.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRA&#8217;s<\/a> endorsements don&#8217;t mean that much:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The organization\u2019s stamp of approval, it is believed, not only sends a clear message to Americans who own guns, but brings with it indispensable grassroots organizing muscle that can make all the difference in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">House<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> races &#8230; Many interest groups endorse candidates, but it is fair to say that few find their endorsements as eagerly sought as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a>. \u00a0And there may be a few races here or there in which an NRA endorsement has a meaningful impact on an election\u2019s outcome. \u00a0But it seems clear that those cases are few and far between &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The antis are really getting desperate if they&#8217;re peddling this. \u00a0If gun owner endorsements didn&#8217;t matter candidates would not seek them out. \u00a0In just the past couple of weeks I&#8217;ve gotten:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 fundraising invitations from incumbent state legislators<\/li>\n<li>1 invitation to a re-election campaign kickoff for an incumbent state legislator<\/li>\n<li>1 fundraising invitation from a Congressional candidate<\/li>\n<li>1 request for a candidate questionnaire from a state legislative candidate<\/li>\n<li>1 request for an endorsement from an incumbent county office holder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is probably more love than the sum total all of the antigun groups nationwide have gotten from &#8217;12 candidates thus far. \u00a0The antis aren&#8217;t even talking about elections anymore. \u00a0They&#8217;re in hysterics over the abject failure of their <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/nationnow\/2012\/02\/starbucks-guns-boycott.html\" target=\"_blank\">Starbucks boycott<\/a>. \u00a0This is why their legislative agenda is failing. \u00a0Politicians don&#8217;t see the antis as being willing or able to back up their positions at election time.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D5665&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
