{"id":555,"date":"2009-12-30T12:47:52","date_gmt":"2009-12-30T17:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=555"},"modified":"2009-12-30T12:47:52","modified_gmt":"2009-12-30T17:47:52","slug":"microstamping-in-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=555","title":{"rendered":"Microstamping in action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>California&#8217;s microstamping law goes into effect on January 1. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/capitolandcalifornia\/story\/2427189.html\" target=\"_blank\">How&#8217;s it working out?<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230;\u00a0The law is on hold as state officials work out regulations governing how new guns will be approved &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Should we be optimistic that will happen any time soon?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; California regulators have approved far fewer semi-automatic pistols for sale in the wake of a state law that required new safety devices in 2006 and 2007 &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ll take that as a No. \u00a0Are manufacturers going to comply or leave the market?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Now, with a new bullet-stamping law scheduled to take effect in 2010, the gun industry predicts it will introduce even fewer new models in California rather than install a device necessary to trace individual casings to a statewide database. &#8220;California will become like Cuba with cars,&#8221; said Lawrence Keane, senior counsel for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nssf.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Shooting Sports Foundation<\/a>, which represents the gun industry. &#8220;You will only be able to get very old models of guns.&#8221; &#8230; Manufacturers say the microstamping technology is unproven and would add hundreds of dollars in new production costs to guns &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Leave the market.
