But it also belongs in the broader legend of Schumer, the political animal par excellence. \u00a0<strong>\u201cChuck always wants to know where the other guy is coming from,\u201d<\/strong> said <a href=\"http:\/\/weiner.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is no way he could have said that with a straight face.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em> &#8220;&#8230; His work on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brady_Handgun_Violence_Prevention_Act\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Bill\u2019s<\/a> handgun restriction turned him into, literally, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">National Rifle Association<\/a> poster child. The NRA\u2019s favorite image pictures<a href=\"\/images\/schumer-gun.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"> Schumer grinning under bright blue earmuffs as he demonstrates the deadliness of a stubby assault weapon<\/a>. \u201cHe just must have needed Nelson&#8217;s vote very badly to do that,\u201d said <a href=\"mailto:tking@nysrpa.org\">Tom King<\/a>, the president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysrpa.org\" target=\"_blank\">New York State Rifle and Pistol Association<\/a>, who called Schumer \u201cpatently anti-gun.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He did need Nelson&#8217;s vote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/0,2933,580947,00.html\" target=\"_blank\">really, really badly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Schumer says, however, that <strong>he favors only common sense and regionally varied restrictions on guns<\/strong>, and he has long bragged of winning, at summer camp, an NRA sharpshooting prize with a .22 rifle &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Common sense = New York City-style gun laws. \u00a0He does brag about his shooting medal too whenever he feels it would score him some political points. \u00a0For some reason, though, he doesn&#8217;t brag about when as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.assembly.state.ny.us\" target=\"_blank\">State Assemblyman<\/a> he voted to gut the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sullivan_Act\" target=\"_blank\">Sullivan Act<\/a> and make all of New York (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and New York City<\/span>) right to carry. \u00a0I have the vote sheet of him doing that.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u201cIt surprised me he went out with Ben Nelson shooting, but it doesn\u2019t surprise me that he shot a couple of birds,\u201d said Jim Kessler, a former Schumer aide who later founded Americans for Gun Safety, a gun control group that was later folded into the group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thirdway.org\" target=\"_blank\">Third Way<\/a>. \u201cIn 1994, if Chuck thought the way to win the <a href=\"http:\/\/clintongunban.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">assault weapons ban<\/a> vote was to go out and hunt with [former Democratic Rep.] <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caphillgrp.com\/html\/brewster.html\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Brewster<\/a> of Oklahoma and shoot three birds, he would have done it.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Believe it.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D527&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=527\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=527\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=527\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some more on Schumer&#8217;s hunting trip from WNBC Ch.4: &#8220;&#8230; The hunting story became legend in the Senate last month after Nelson passed photographs of the orange-clad, gun-toting Harvard grad, dead bird in hand, around an amused caucus lunch.
