{"id":5088,"date":"2011-11-25T12:46:38","date_gmt":"2011-11-25T17:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5088"},"modified":"2011-11-25T15:39:20","modified_gmt":"2011-11-25T20:39:20","slug":"talking-and-doing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=5088","title":{"rendered":"Talking and doing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a big difference between a politician talking about something and actually doing something about it. \u00a0Case in point, this article from NorthJersey.com, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/news\/state\/134481193_Christie_opposes_handgun_leniency.html\" target=\"_blank\">Christie opposes handgun leniency<\/a>&#8220;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/governor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Governor Christie<\/a> opposes a push in Congress that would effectively override New Jersey&#8217;s strict laws against concealed handguns, even though <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.nj.com\/njv_editorial_page\/2011\/11\/nj_gop_congressional_delegatio.html\" target=\"_blank\">the state&#8217;s entire Republican delegation<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">House<\/a> voted for it this month &#8230; Christie has not spoken publicly about the issue, but his spokesman confirmed in an e-mail that the Republican governor has not changed his position since the 2009 campaign, when he opposed a bill that narrowly failed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can tell Christie is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">really<\/span> concerned about this. \u00a0The sum total of the political capital he&#8217;s willing to spend on this issue is to have some anonymous, low-level staffer respond to an e-mail inquiry by quoting a two-year old position statement he made previously. \u00a0True, this is more than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Gov. Cuomo<\/a> has done. \u00a0I&#8217;m not aware of any statement he&#8217;s made about <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\" target=\"_blank\">H.R. 822<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, if either Christie or Cuomo were really bent out of shape over the bill then why haven&#8217;t they been lobbying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Obama<\/a> and Congress over it?
