{"id":3867,"date":"2011-04-26T10:56:52","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T14:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=3867"},"modified":"2011-04-26T10:56:52","modified_gmt":"2011-04-26T14:56:52","slug":"we-deserve-better-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=3867","title":{"rendered":"We deserve better candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Obama<\/a> has certainly lowered the bar for presidential contenders, we really deserve better quality candidates than this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/abclocal.go.com\/wabc\/story?section=news\/politics&amp;id=8022489\" target=\"_blank\">President Trump?<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The real estate tycoon with the comb-over hairdo and in-your-face attitude plans to decide by June whether to join the field of GOP contenders competing in 2012 to make the Democratic incumbent a one-term president &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think this is a PR stunt. \u00a0There seems to be a fad among the very wealthy to try running for high office. \u00a0Unfortunately, being successful in business does not mean a person can be successful in politics or even that they understand the methodology of our political system. \u00a0Trump has not demonstrated he has the skills to hold the highest office in the land. \u00a0If he were serious, he could run for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.congress.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Congress<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Senate<\/a> next year, prove he has the skills to operate in a political environment and run for president in &#8217;16 or &#8217;20. \u00a0He would have a lot more creditability then. \u00a0However, neither of those offices would put him on the national stage and he would have to compete with lots of others for media attention in the interim. \u00a0I don&#8217;t believe he wants that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/dailyfray\/ron-paul-signals-he-39-s-running-for-president-20110426\" target=\"_blank\">Ron Paul Signals He&#8217;s Running for President.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/paul.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Ron Paul<\/a> is officially considering running for president.
