Carolyn McCarthy\u2019s (D-NY04) bill to ban high-capacity ammunition magazines has reached a new milestone, with 100 cosponsors now supporting the proposal &#8230; The 100 cosponsors hail from every part of the country, and represent a broad coalition of Congress members representing urban, suburban and rural areas &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not a broad coalition. \u00a0It&#8217;s the same tired, old leftists kooks in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.house.gov\" target=\"_blank\">House<\/a> making some noise. \u00a0The Senate bill <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.gov\" target=\"_blank\">S-32<\/a> has 10 sponsors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; The rapid growth in support behind the bill \u2013 which was introduced on Jan. 18 \u2013 is the result of a two-pronged strategy being executed by Rep. McCarthy and a nationwide network of advocates &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Their strategy is the the same tired, old plan whereby professional activist groups and their mouthpieces in Congress give talking points to big city, leftist newspapers who pen glowing op-eds touting whatever crackpot ideas the activists are pushing at the time. \u00a0Real Americans don&#8217;t pay attention to the gobbledygook the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/17\/opinion\/17thu1.html\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times puts on their op-ed<\/a> page which is why, despite the headline, McCarthy&#8217;s bill hasn&#8217;t gone anywhere after being shoveled off to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security last month.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; On another level, groups like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bradycampaign.org\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supgv.org\" target=\"_blank\">States United to Prevent Gun Violence<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csgv.org\" target=\"_blank\">Coalition to Stop Gun Violence<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vpc.org\" target=\"_blank\">Violence Policy Center<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyagv.org\" target=\"_blank\">New Yorkers Against Gun Violence<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycrimecommission.org\" target=\"_blank\">Citizens Crime Commission of NYC<\/a> are working tirelessly with local partners across the country to speak to members of Congress and their constituents directly in their districts &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These groups are little more than astroturf. \u00a0They don&#8217;t have a real constituency like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nra.org\" target=\"_blank\">NRA<\/a> does so there&#8217;s no way members of Congress are being bombed with demands from their constituents back home to sign onto this bill.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; \u201cThe broad and steadily growing coalition of cosponsors for the bill to ban high-capacity magazines is a clear sign that millions of Americans support commonsense measures to address gun violence,\u201d Rep.
