{"id":354,"date":"2009-10-26T08:15:02","date_gmt":"2009-10-26T12:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=354"},"modified":"2009-10-26T08:15:02","modified_gmt":"2009-10-26T12:15:02","slug":"greene-co-urged-to-oppose-antigun-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=354","title":{"rendered":"Greene Co. urged to oppose antigun legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greene Co. <a href=\"mailto:sfrey@discovergreene.com\">Legislator Sean Frey (D-Durham)<\/a> wants the county to take a stand in opposition to pending antigun legislation in Albany. \u00a0Buried in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailymail.net\/articles\/2009\/10\/26\/news\/doc4ae4f09159c65935903116.txt\" target=\"_blank\">story<\/a> in the Catskill Daily Mail is this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Frey also encouraged the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenegovernment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Board<\/a> to oppose anti-gun legislation before the New York State Legislature. \u00a0Frey claims passage of the amendments in question infringe on Second Amendment Laws guaranteeing the right to bear arms. \u00a0He urged the Board to contact <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.ny.us\/governor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Governor David Patterson<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/?ad=064\" target=\"_blank\">Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver<\/a>, Assembly members <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/?ad=127\" target=\"_blank\">Lopez<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/mem\/?ad=108\" target=\"_blank\">Gordon<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/senator\/james-l-seward\" target=\"_blank\">Senator James Seward<\/a> to vote &#8216;No&#8217; on <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/leg\/?bn=a801\" target=\"_blank\">A-801-A<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/leg\/?bn=a1093\" target=\"_blank\">A-1093<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/leg\/?bn=a1326\" target=\"_blank\">A-1326<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/assembly.state.ny.us\/leg\/?bn=a5078\" target=\"_blank\">A-5078<\/a> and other pending legislation. \u00a0According to Frey, the laws could have a harmful effect on hunters, sportsmen, legal gun owners, wildlife health and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dec.ny.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">DEC<\/a>. \u00a0They could also adversely impact revenue for local municipalities. \u00a0Among the many strict requirements in the law is outlawing all handguns capable of firing by a five-year old child, which in essence would make all current handguns illegal. \u00a0Other measures require renewal of firearms licenses every five years and penalties for failure to store weapons away from children. \u00a0The definition of assault weapon would be amended to include detachable magazines and muzzle breaks and another rule would impose further limits on gun dealers. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;This law will have a bad effect on hunters, decrease the rights of citizens and move forward with the agenda to make owning all firearms illegal,&#8221;<\/strong> Frey said. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;I urge the Board to prepare a resolution opposing these measures,&#8221;<\/strong> Frey said. <strong>&#8220;I also urge the board to draw up certified copies of their opposition and send them to all pertinent parties.&#8221;<\/strong> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul class=\"ssb_list_wrapper\"><li class=\"fb2\" style=\"width:135px\"><iframe src=\"\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunpoliticsny.com%2F%3Fp%3D354&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;share=true&amp;width=135&amp;height=21&amp;appId=307091639398582\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden;  width:150px; height:21px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/li><li class=\"twtr\" style=\"width:90px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/share\" class=\"twitter-share-button\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=354\">&nbsp;<\/a><script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');<\/script><\/li><li class=\"gplus\" style=\"width:68px\"><div class=\"g-plusone\" data-size=\"medium\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=354\"><\/div><\/li><li class=\"ssb_linkedin\" style=\"width:64px\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.linkedin.com\/in.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">lang: en_US<\/script><script type=\"IN\/Share\" data-url=\"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=354\" data-counter=\"right\"><\/script><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greene Co.
