Sen. Diaz<\/a> has requested the Health Committee<\/a> take up his bill S-292<\/a>, which pertains to lead poisoning. \u00a0It would require the Commissioner of Health<\/a> to report to the Attorney General<\/a> whenever “in the opinion of the Commissioner”<\/em> a manufacturer, distributor or retailer is using “improper measures”<\/em> which could lead to possible lead poisoning. \u00a0What exactly “improper measures”<\/em> are is entirely up to the Health Commissioner. \u00a0The bill is vague enough to be abused by politicians with an agenda.<\/p>\n

For example, perhaps lead ammo should not be sold in cardboard boxes and should only be available in childproof plastic clamshell packages. \u00a0There already have been efforts to ban lead bullets<\/a> so this line of thinking cannot be discounted.<\/p>\n
