Here are relevant responses on gun issues from candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cacaceforda.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Susan Cacace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnsarcone.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Sarcone<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Obtaining a gun in Westchester involves a multistep process that can take up to a year in some cases. But the process is part of New York law, which has the strictest gun laws in the country, according to Cacace. \u201cPeople are entitled to own a gun under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/topics\/united-states-constitution\/2nd-amendment\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Second Amendment<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cIn Westchester County gun permit applicants have to go through a long waiting period. Legislation now requires municipalities to advise pistol permit applicants to store guns properly. Westchester has been doing that since the 2021 law. They are ahead of the game.\u201d &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Sarcone said he would shorten the waiting period for law-abiding citizens applying for gun permits. \u201cIf they do a background check and it comes back clean you should get your license without having to wait,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you have former convictions or a history of mental illness, you don\u2019t get a permit.
