{"id":28012,"date":"2024-02-10T08:07:31","date_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=28012"},"modified":"2024-02-10T08:07:31","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T13:07:31","slug":"pilip-soft-on-gun-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.gunpoliticsny.com\/?p=28012","title":{"rendered":"Pilip soft on gun rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tom_Suozzi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Suozzi<\/a> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/theisland360.com\/featured\/suozzi-touts-record-on-gun-violence-prevention-measures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">touting his antigun credentials<\/a> in his bid to return to office in <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/New_York%27s_3rd_Congressional_District_special_election,_2024\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this week&#8217;s special election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mazi_Melesa_Pilip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mazi Pilip<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/tom-suozzi-and-mazi-melesa-pilip-jaw-over-gun-safety-as-election-to-replace-santos-nears\/ar-BB1hDsCk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">doesn&#8217;t appear much better<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; On Thursday, Suozzi sought to put the focus of the campaign on gun safety, an issue that has come up repeatedly in candidate interviews. He cast Pilip\u2019s stated support for a machine gun ban as an attempt to hoodwink Long Island and Queens voters into thinking she supports a revival of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Federal_Assault_Weapons_Ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004<\/a> &#8230; \u201cMazi is a firm believer in the right to bear arms,\u201d said the statement. <strong>\u201cShe believes law-abiding citizens should have a route to have access to guns, but not automatic assault weapons.\u201d<\/strong> &#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstateny.com\/politics\/2024\/02\/whos-endorsing-tom-suozzi-and-mazi-melesa-pilip-ny-3\/392939\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Plus<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230; Democrats are attempting to flip the seat after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/30\/nyregion\/expelled-congress-members-george-santos.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disgraced Republican George Santos<\/a> was expelled last year. The suburban district is seen as a bellwether for what\u2019s to come in November.
